Abstract

The invention provides methods of prognosing and classifying lung cancer patients into poor survival groups or good survival groups. The invention also includes kits for use in the methods of the invention.

Claims (25)

1. A method of prognosing a subject with early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), comprising the steps of:

(a) determining the expression levels of STX1A, HIF1A, CCT3, MAFK, RNF5 and HLA-DPB1 in a lung tumor test sample from the subject; and

(b) comparing the expression levels so determined with expression levels of STX1A, HIF1A, CCT3, MAFK, RNF5 and HLA-DPB1 in a lung tumor control from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects,

wherein higher levels of STX1A, HIF1A, CCT3, MAFK, and RNF5 and lower levels of HLA-DPB1 in the subject as compared to the control indicates a poor prognosis; or

(c) determining the expression levels of STX1A, CCR7, and HIF1A in a lung tumor test sample from the subject; and

(d) comparing the expression levels so determined with expression levels of STX1A, CCR7, and HIF1A in a control from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects,

wherein higher levels of STX1A and HIF1A and lower levels of CCR7 in the subject as compared to the control indicates a poor prognosis.

2. The method according to claim 1 , comprising the steps of:

(a) determining the expression levels of STX1A, HIF1A, CCT3, MAFK, RNF5 and HLA-DPB1 in a lung tumor test sample from the subject; and

(b) comparing the expression levels so determined with expression levels of STX1A, HIF1A, CCT3, MAFK, RNF5 and HLA-DPB1 in a lung tumor control from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects,

wherein higher levels of STX1A, HIF1A, CCT3, MAFK, and RNF5 and lower levels of HLA-DPB1 in the subject as compared to the control indicates a poor prognosis.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the subject has stage I NSCLC.

4. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the subject has stage II NSCLC.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising the steps of:

(a) determining the expression levels of STX1A, CCR7, and HIF1A in a lung tumor test sample from the subject; and

(b) comparing the expression levels so determined with expression levels of STX1A, CCR7, and HIF1A in a lung tumor control from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects,

wherein higher levels of STX1A and HIF1A and lower levels of CCR7 in the subject as compared to the control indicates a poor prognosis.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the subject has stage I NSCLC.

7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the subject has stage II NSCLC.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the control is a specific value obtained from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects.

9. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the control is a specific value obtained from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects.

10. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the control is a specific value obtained from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects.

11. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the control is a sample obtained from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects.

12. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the control is a sample obtained from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects.

13. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the control is a sample obtained from an early stage NSCLC subject or group of early stage NSCLC subjects.
