Abstract

A system receives account access information from a user. The account is then accessed using the received access information. Data is harvested from a web page associated with the account or received from another financial data source. The user's ability to access the account is authenticated based on the obtained information.

Claims (30)

1. A method, the method comprising:

directing, by a financial management system comprising one or more computers, a first transfer associated with a financial account of a user;

requesting, by a financial management system, that the user identify an amount of the first transfer;

receiving, by the financial management system, a response from the user comprising an identification of the amount of the first transfer;

confirming, by the financial management system, the user's ability to access the financial account if the identification of the amount of the first transfer is correct;

denying, by the financial management system, the user's ability to access the financial account if the identification of the amount of the first transfer is not correct;

directing, by the financial management system, a second transfer associated with the financial account;

requesting, by the financial management system, that the user identify an amount of the second transfer;

harvesting, by the financial management system, data from a web page associated with the financial account; and

authenticating, by the financial management system, the user's ability to access the financial account based at least in part on the data harvested from the web page associated with the financial account.

2. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first transfer is a credit transfer.

3. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first transfer is a debit transfer.

4. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising confirming, by the financial management system, the user's ability to access the financial account if the identification of the amount of the first transfer and an identification of the amount of the second transfer are correct.

5. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising retrieving, by the financial management system, data from a financial data server associated with the financial account and authenticating the user's ability to access the financial account based at least in part on data retrieved from the financial data server associated with the financial account.

6. A system, comprising:

at least one memory that stores computer-executable instructions; and

at least one processor to access the at least one memory, wherein the at least one processor executes the computer-executable instructions to:

direct a first transfer associated with a financial account of a user;

request that the user identify an amount of the first transfer;

receive a response from the user comprising an identification of the amount of the first transfer;

confirm the user's ability to access the financial account if the identification of the amount of the first transfer is correct;

deny the user's ability to access the financial account if the identification of the amount of the first transfer is not correct;

direct a second transfer associated with the financial account;

request that the user identify an amount of the second transfer;

harvest data from a web page associated with the financial account; and,

authenticate the user's ability to access the financial account based at least in part on the data harvested from the web page associated with the financial account.

7. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the first transfer is a credit transfer.

8. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the first transfer is a debit transfer.

9. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the at least one processor further confirms the user's ability to access the financial account if the identification of the amount of the first transfer and an identification of the amount of the second transfer are correct.

10. The system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the at least one processor further retrieves data from a financial data server associated with the financial account and authenticating the user's ability to access the financial account based at least in part on data retrieved from the financial data server associated with the financial account.
