MEDICAL FLUID DELIVERY SYSTEM AND METHOD RELATING TO THE SAME
A medical fluid delivery system for the use in the delivery of medical fluids. The medical fluid delivery system may include a pumping system, a disposable medical fluid line set and a valve operating system. The disposable tubing line set may include valves adapted to interface with the valve operating system. The valve operating system may be adapted to operate only selected valves using a single drive means. The pumping system may be operated over a wide range of medical fluid delivery rates by employing a bi-directional drive member and a transmission interfaced with the drive member and a pump.
1 . A method for delivering a plurality of medical fluids, the method comprising:
fluidly interconnecting at least first and second medical fluid delivery lines with one pump;
first operating, during said fluidly interconnecting, said one pump to deliver a first medical liquid through said first medical fluid delivery line;
second operating, during said fluidly interconnecting, said one pump to deliver a second medical liquid through said second medical fluid delivery line in at least non-overlapping relation to said first operating step.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said fluidly interconnecting step comprises the steps of:
first interfacing a first valve interconnected with said first medical fluid delivery line with a first valve actuator;
second interfacing a second valve interconnected with said second medical fluid delivery line with a second valve actuator.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
first positioning a valve controller from a first controller position to a second controller position to actuate said first valve actuator, wherein said second valve actuator remains in a non-actuated positioned during said first positioning.
4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:
second positioning a valve controller from said second controller position to a third controller position to actuate said second valve actuator.
5 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:
automatically returning, after said first positioning step, said first valve actuator to a non-actuated position.
6 . The method of claim 2 further comprising:
actuating said first valve actuator.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said actuating step comprises:
first moving a valve controller in a first direction; and
driving, during said first moving step, said first valve actuator from a non-actuated position to an actuated position.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said actuating step comprises:
second moving, prior to said first moving step, said valve controller in a second direction to position said valve controller for said first moving step.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein during said second moving step said second valve actuator is in a non-actuated position.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein during both said first moving and second moving steps said second valve actuator is in a non-actuated position.
11 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said actuating step occurs prior to said second operating step.
12 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said actuating said first valve controller step is a first actuating, the method further comprising:
second actuating said second valve actuator.
13 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said first interfacing step comprises:
relating said first valve to said first valve actuator by matching a color designation of said first valve to a color designation of said first valve actuator.
14 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
moving, prior to said fluidly interconnecting, a component of said one pump in linear response to an angular output of an angular element to enable placement of a medical fluid output line within said pump.
