Printhead capping device with an elastomeric seal
View Patent ↗The invention relates to a capping device for a printhead. The capping device includes a metal body having a U-shaped transverse profile and defining a plurality of holes in a portion thereof. An elastomeric seal is attached to an inside surface of one leg of the metal body, said seal keyed to the metal body by the holes.
1. A capping device for a printhead, the capping device comprising:
a metal body having a U-shaped transverse profile and defining a plurality of holes in a portion thereof; and
an elastomeric seal attached to an inside surface of one leg of the metal body, said seal keyed to the metal body by the holes.
2. The capping device of claim 1 , which is made by punching a metal blank and then having the elastomeric seal shot onto the body by an injection molding tool.
3. The capping device of claim 1 , in which the metal body defines integral springs punched from, and bent into, an inner region of the metal body.
4. The capping device of claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric seal includes a number of rectangular air chambers therein.
5. The capping device of claim 1 , including bosses attached inside one leg of the metal body, said bosses configured to ride over a portion of the printhead during a capping procedure.
6. The capping device of claim 5 , which is configured to be actuated by an eccentric camshaft during the capping procedure.
7. The capping device of claim 1 , wherein the metal body is made from stainless spring steel.
