Wound covering
View Patent ↗A non-contact wound covering for covering a wound includes a peripheral sealing ring. The peripheral sealing ring is covered by a barrier layer and this assembly is attached to the skin with an adhesive. The barrier layer and peripheral sealing ring together define a treatment volume over the wound. Treatment fluid is introduced into the treatment volume through an inlet, and is exhausted therefrom through an outlet or an exhaust filter.
1. A wound covering for covering and applying a treatment fluid to a wound to be treated, comprising:
a peripheral sealing ring defining a cavity to encircle the wound;
means on a lower surface of the peripheral sealing ring for attaching the wound covering to skin around the wound;
a barrier layer supported on an upper surface of the peripheral sealing ring, spanning the cavity, to be spaced apart from the wound by the peripheral sealing ring;
the peripheral sealing ring and the barrier layer together defining a treatment volume in the cavity in which the barrier layer seals the treatment volume over the wound when the wound covering is attached to skin;
an inlet positioned to conduct treatment fluid over the upper surface of the peripheral sealing ring, into the treatment volume; and,
means for exhausting treatment fluid from the treatment volume.
2. The wound covering of claim 1 further including means coupled to the inlet for providing a flow of treatment fluid into the treatment volume, wherein the treatment fluid comprises a mixture of gases including oxygen.
3. The wound covering of claim 1 further including means coupled to the inlet for providing a flow of treatment fluid into the treatment volume, wherein the treatment fluid comprises a mixture of gases including nitric oxide.
4. The wound covering of claim 1 further including means coupled to the inlet for providing a flow of treatment fluid into the treatment volume, wherein the treatment fluid comprises a mixture of gases including water vapor.
5. The wound covering of claim 1 further including means coupled to the inlet for providing a flow of treatment fluid into the treatment volume, wherein the treatment fluid comprises a mixture of gases including one or more medications.
6. The wound covering of claim 1 further including means coupled to the inlet for providing a flow of treatment fluid into the treatment volume, wherein the treatment fluid includes a liquid.
7. The wound covering of claim 1 , wherein the means for exhausting is an exhaust filter on the peripheral sealing ring.
8. The wound covering of claim 1 , wherein the means for exhausting is an exhaust filter in the barrier layer.
9. The wound covering of claim 1 wherein the peripheral sealing ring is a polymeric foam ring.
10. The wound covering of claim 9 , further including a medicament absorbed in to the polymeric foam ring.
11. The wound covering of claim 10 , wherein the medicament is nitric oxide.
12. The wound covering of claim 1 , wherein the means for attaching is adhesive on the lower surface, further including a release liner on the adhesive.
