Abstract

The invention relates to a multichannel radio-frequency receiver ( 1 ) for electromagnetic waves, having a radio-frequency analogue section ( 2 ) which has an input ( 3 ) for an electrical signal of a receiving device ( 4 ), and having an lower-frequency section ( 8, 9 ) which is connected downstream from the radio-frequency analogue section ( 2 ) and has a plurality of parallel channels ( 6 b , 6 c ; 7 b , 7 c ) for respectively different signal strengths and an evaluation circuit, in which a signal divider ( 5 ) is provided in the radio-frequency analogue section ( 2 ) in order to split the signal in accordance with a predeterminable division ratio into signal elements which can be supplied to radio-frequency analogue channels ( 6 a , 7 a ), downstream from which the channels ( 6 b , 6 c ; 7 b , 7 c ) of the lower-frequency section ( 8, 9 ) are respectively connected, and the channels ( 6 b , 6 c ; 7 b , 7 c ) of the lower-frequency section ( 8, 9 ) each have an evaluation circuit for detection of the phase and amplitude of the respective signal element.

Claims (22)

1. A multichannel radio-frequency receiver comprising:

a radio-frequency analog stage, configured to receive an input of a radio frequency electrical signal from a receiving device, the radio-frequency analog stage comprising a signal divider configured to split said electrical signal of one frequency into at least a first sub-signal and a second sub-signal having the same frequency as said electrical signal according to a pre-established division ratio and to pass at least the first sub-signal and the second sub-signal to at least a first channel and a second channel, wherein

the pre-established division ratio causes the first sub-signal and the second sub-signal to have different signal strengths; and

a lower-frequency stage connected downstream from the radio-frequency analog stage, comprising:

mixers to convert the radio-frequency of the at least first sub-signal and the second sub-signal into lower frequencies;

analog to digital converters each having a respective dynamic range to digitize at least the first sub-signal and the second sub-signal;

evaluation circuits for determining the phase and amplitude of at least the first sub-signal and the second sub-signal; and

a selection device configured to measure the phase and/or amplitude difference between at least first sub-signal and second sub-signal in order to correct the measured values of the phase and amplitude of the respective sub-signal on the basis of the phase and/or amplitude difference ascertained, and to employ the corrected measured values of each sub-signal to select a sub-signal from at least the first sub-signal and the second sub-signal for further processing based on determining which channel outputs the sub-signal with a signal strength closest to, without exceeding, a maximum of the respective dynamic range of that channel's analog to digital converter, the signal strength being dependent on the pre-established division ratio.

2. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein a first amplifier is connected downstream from the signal divider in a signal path from the input to an output of the receiver.

3. Receiver according to claim 1 wherein a signal strength limiter is connected downstream from the signal divider.

4. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein a plurality of signal dividers are connected in series, in the form of a cascade.

5. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein a signal strength limiter is connected downstream from the signal divider, and a further signal divider is connected downstream from the signal limiter.

6. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the lower-frequency stage in each channel has a frequency converter for converting the respective radio-frequency sub-signal to a sub-signal at an intermediate frequency.

7. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the evaluation circuits can be matched to the respective signal strengths.

8. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the evaluation circuits each have a demodulator.

9. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiving device is a microwave receiving device.

10. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the receiver is a receiver for a radar device.

11. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein in each channel, a first amplifier is connected downstream from the signal divider in a signal path from the input to an output of the receiver; and the lower-frequency stage in each channel has a frequency converter for converting the respective radio-frequency sub-signal to a sub-signal at an intermediate frequency.

12. Receiver according to claim 11 , wherein the evaluation circuits each have a demodulator.

13. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the respective dynamic range of the analog to digital converter of the first channel and of the analog to digital converter of the second channel is a same respective dynamic range.

14. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the first channel and the second channel are configured to provide a same amount of gain.

15. Receiver according to claim 1 , wherein the signal divider is configured to split the electrical signal into a plurality of sub-signals and to pass the plurality of sub-signals to a respective plurality of channels.
