Abstract

A mobile communication device with security mechanisms is provided for enabling wireless personal information transfer with increased security. In another embodiment of the invention, a mobile communication device is used to confirm a transaction.

Claims (36)

1. A mobile communication device for communicating using short distance communication signals, comprising:

a memory;

a processor in communication with the memory, wherein the processor of the mobile communication device is programmed to:

receive a first short distance contactless communication signal;

determine a transactional context of the mobile communication device based on the first short distance contactless communication signal; and

activate an information transfer application appropriate for the transactional context based on the determination; and

a transmitter in communication with the processor, wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit, by way of the information transfer application, a first signal to a first financial institution of a user of the mobile communication device and a second signal to a second financial institution of a seller, wherein the second signal is piggy-backed to the first signal.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first contactless communication signal is received from a radio device.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further programmed to deactivate the information transfer application from a foreground process to a background process.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further programmed to activate the information transfer application in response to a received selection on the mobile communication device.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first short distance contactless communication signals travels approximately three inches.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first short distance contactless communication signal travels approximately three feet.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further programmed to receive an authorization code.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further programmed to receive first data.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further programmed to cause a representation of the first data to be provided to a radio device.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the representation of the first data is provided to the radio device as a second short distance contactless communication signal.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the first short distance contactless communication signal and the second short distance contactless communication signal are near field communication signals.

12. A non-transitory computer-readable medium of a mobile communication device, wherein the computer-readable medium has instructions stored thereon, and wherein the instructions comprise:

instructions to receive an activation signal;

instructions to determine a transactional context of the mobile communication device based on the activation signal;

instructions to activate an information transfer program for the transactional context; and

instructions to cause the information transfer program to transmit a first signal to a first financial institution of a user of the mobile communication device and a second signal to a second financial institution of a seller, wherein the second signal is piggy-backed to the first signal.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , further comprising instructions to execute the information transfer program based on the activation signal.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , further comprising:

instructions to deactivate the information transfer program from a foreground process to a background process.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the activation signal is received from a radio device.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the activation signal is received from the user of the mobile communication device.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the activation signal travels approximately three inches to reach the mobile communication device.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the activation signal travels approximately three feet to reach the mobile communication device.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the activation signal is representative of a short distance contactless communication signal.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the short distance contactless communication signal is a near field communication signal.

21. A method for communicating using short distance communication signals, the method comprising:

receiving, by a mobile communication device, an activation signal;

determining a transactional context of the mobile communication device based on the activation signal;

activating an information transfer program for the transactional context; and

causing the information transfer program to transmit a first signal to a first financial institution of a user of the mobile communication device and a second signal to a second financial institution of a seller, wherein the second signal is piggy-backed to the first signal.
