Abstract

This invention relates to prosthetic cardiac and venous valves and a single catheter device and minimally invasive techniques for percutaneous and transluminal valvuloplasty and prosthetic valve implantation.

Claims (24)

1. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis comprising:

a. a tubular stent body member comprising a plurality of spaced struts with interstices between adjacent pairs of struts, the tubular stent body having lumenal and ablumenal surfaces, a central annular opening along a central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member, a proximal anchor section having a constant radius along the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member, a distal anchor section and an intermediate annular section, wherein the proximal anchor section and the distal anchor section are diametrically greater than the intermediate annular section, wherein the proximal and distal anchor sections each further comprise a plurality of spaced struts with interstices between adjacent pairs of struts and each of the proximal and distal anchor sections radially expands relative to the intermediate annular section; and

b. a graft member covering at least a portion of at least one of the lumenal and ablumenal surfaces of the tubular stent body member and subtending the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member and forming a valve member.

2. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 wherein the proximal and distal anchor sections of the tubular stent body member each further comprise a flange that projects radially outward and away from the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member.

3. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 2 wherein each of the flanges further comprises an oriented opening in each of the flanges.

4. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 wherein an ablumenal surface of the proximal anchor section is substantially parallel to an ablumenal surface of the distal anchor section during delivery or deployment of the implantable prosthesis.

5. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 4 wherein each of the flanges further comprises an oriented opening in each of the flanges an ablumenal surface of the proximal and distal anchor section is substantially parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member during delivery or deployment of the implantable prosthesis.

6. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 further comprising a membrane disposed in the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member to occlude the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member.

7. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 , wherein the valve member is disposed in the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member to open and to close the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member.

8. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 wherein the stent body member further comprises a proximal transition section and a distal transition section to interconnect the intermediate annular section to the proximal and distal anchor sections.

9. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 8 further comprising a plurality of flow regulation struts coupled to the stent body member at the proximal transition section and that project radially inward toward the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member.

10. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 8 , wherein at least one of the proximal transition section and the distal transition section tapers outwardly away from the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member.

11. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 8 , wherein the proximal transition section and the distal transition section include a plurality of spaced struts with interstices intermediate adjacent pairs of struts, wherein the proximal transition section and the distal transition section may transition from an angle with respect to the proximal anchor section and distal anchor section, respectively, to be coplanar with respect to the proximal anchor section and distal anchor section, respectively.

12. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 , wherein the distal anchor section has a constant radius along the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member.

13. An endolumenally implantable prosthesis as defined in claim 1 , wherein at least one of the proximal anchor section and the distal anchor section is cylindrical.

14. A prosthesis endolumenally implantable in an anatomical passageway having a valve member comprising:

a. a tubular stent body member comprising a plurality of spaced struts with interstices intermediate adjacent pairs of struts, the tubular stent body having lumenal and ablumenal surfaces, a central annular opening along a central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member, a proximal anchor section, a distal anchor section, and an intermediate annular section, wherein a substantial portion of an ablumenal surface of at least one of the proximal anchor section and the distal anchor section contacts tissue adjacent a valve member, the proximal and distal anchor sections of the tubular stent body member each further comprise a flange that projects radially outward and away from the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member and each of the flanges further comprises an oriented opening in each of the flanges; and

b. a graft member covering at least a portion of at least one of the lumenal and ablumenal surfaces of the tubular stent body member and subtending the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member and forming the valve member, wherein the valve member is disposed in the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member to open and to close the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member.

15. A prosthesis endolumenally implantable in an anatomical passageway having a valve member as defined in claim 14 , wherein a substantial portion of an ablumenal surface of the intermediate annular section apposes the valve member.

16. A prosthesis endolumenally implantable in an anatomical passageway having a valve member as defined in claim 14 , further comprising a membrane disposed in the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member to occlude the central annular opening of the tubular stent body member.

17. A prosthesis endolumenally implantable in an anatomical passageway having a valve member as defined in claim 14 , wherein the stent body member further comprises a proximal transition section and a distal transition section to interconnect the intermediate annular section to the proximal and distal anchor sections.

18. A prosthesis endolumenally implantable in an anatomical passageway having a valve member as defined in claim 17 , further comprising a plurality of flow regulation struts coupled to the stent body member at the proximal transition section and that project radially inward toward the central longitudinal axis of the tubular stent body member.
