Abstract

This invention relates to a printer having a housing, a print engine, and inlet and exit roller assemblies. The housing has an upper cover, a lower cover, a first side wall and a second, opposed side wall. The print engine is housed within the housing and has two print head assemblies arranged in opposed relationship to enable double sided printing onto media passed through the housing. The inlet roller assembly feeds media into the housing, and the exit roller assembly feeds the media out of the housing. A relationship between a spacing between the print engine and the exit roller assembly and a media speed is such that ink printed by the print engine is allowed to dry before passing through the exit roller assembly.

Claims (12)

1. A printer comprising:

a housing having an upper cover, a lower cover, a first side wall and a second, opposed side wall;

a print engine housed within the housing having two print head assemblies arranged in opposed relationship to enable double sided printing onto media operatively passed through the housing;

an inlet roller assembly for feeding media into the housing; and

an exit roller assembly for feeding the media out of the housing, wherein

a spacing between the print engine and exit roller assembly is approximately one meter, whereby a warm-set ink drying time of approximately one second at a media speed of approximately 0.8 meters per second is effected.

2. The printer of claim 1 , further comprising brackets configured to support the print head assemblies and position the print head assemblies approximately 0.75 mm apart from the media fed through the printer.

3. The printer of claim 1 , wherein the entry roller assembly includes a drive roller and a driven roller, the drive roller driven by a first drive motor supported on a metal bracket of the housing.

4. The printer of claim 1 , wherein the exit roller assembly includes a drive roller and a driven roller, the drive roller driven by a second drive motor supported on a metal bracket of the housing.

5. The printer of claim 1 , wherein the housing defines an air inlet and an air duct leading into the printer for ducting air over the print media in the printer.

6. The printer of claim 5 , having a warm air source connected to the air inlet via an air hose.

7. The printer of claim 6 , wherein the sidewalls of the housing define air vents for exhausting air from an interior of the printer.
