Abstract

A card actuated automated banking machine system and method accepts checks and dispenses cash to users. The banking machine is operated to acquire image and magnetic data from deposited checks to determine the genuineness of checks and the authority of a user to receive cash for such checks. Cash is dispensed to the user from the banking machine in exchange for the deposited check.

12. The method according to claim 11 and further comprising:

(l) receiving from the authorized user at least one input through operation of the machine;

wherein in (k) the electronic template is determined responsive to the at least one input received in (l).

13. The method according to claim 1 wherein (h) includes reformatting the image data.

14. The method according to claim 13 wherein in (h) the reformatting corresponds to changing an orientation of the image data.

15. The method according to claim 14 wherein in (h) the reformatting corresponds to changing the orientation of the image data 180°.

16. The method according to claim 13 wherein in (h) the reformatting corresponds to aligning the image data in an imposed coordinate system.

17. The method according to claim 1

wherein (f) includes determining if the selected first data represents at least one predetermined indicia character.

18. The method according to claim 17 wherein in (f) the at least one predetermined indicia character includes a micr character.

19. The method according to claim 17 wherein in (f) the at least one predetermined indicia character comprises a currency type character.

20. The method according to claim 1 wherein (f) includes determining if the indicia corresponds to known characters with at least a predetermined level of assurance.

21. The method according to claim 1 wherein the automated banking machine includes a display, and further comprising:

k) reproducing an image of at least a portion of the check on the display.

22. The method according to claim 1 and further comprising:
