Abstract

The solubility of betacyclodextrin in aqueous fluid is increased by combining niacin or niacinamide in the aqueous fluid with the betacyclodextrin.

Claims (17)

. A method for increasing the dissolved concentration of betacyclodextrin in an aqueous fluid comprising combining in the aqueous fluid betacyclodextrin and niacin or niacinamide in an amount that is sufficient to provide a dissolved concentration of betacyclodextrin in the aqueous fluid that is higher than the saturated dissolved concentration of betacyclodextrin in the aqueous fluid in the absence of the niacin or niacinamide.

. The method of claim 1 wherein the aqueous fluid is at a temperature of 5° C. and contains a dissolved concentration of betacyclodextrin greater than 0.5% w/w.

. The method of claim 2 wherein the aqueous fluid comprising betacyclodextrin and niacin or niacinamide is physically stable for one week at 5° C.

. The method of claim 2 wherein the concentration of the niacinamide or niacin in the aqueous composition is 0.5% w/w or higher.

. The method of claim 4 wherein the concentration of the niacinamide or niacin in the aqueous composition is 1.0% w/w or higher.

. The method of claim 1 wherein the aqueous fluid containing betacyclodextrin and niacin or niacinamide is an aqueous gel composition.

. An aqueous solution comprising betacyclodextrin and niacin or niacinamide, wherein the concentration of betacyclodextrin that is dissolved in the aqueous fluid is higher than the saturated dissolved concentration of betacyclodextrin in the aqueous fluid in the absence of the niacin or niacinamide.

. The aqueous solution of claim 7 which, when maintained at a temperature of 5° C., contains a dissolved concentration of betacyclodextrin greater than 0.5% w/w.

. The aqueous solution of claim 8 which is physically stable for one week at 5° C.

. The aqueous solution of claim 8 wherein the concentration of the niacin or niacinamide in the solution is 0.5% w/w or higher.

. The aqueous solution of claim 10 wherein the concentration of the niacin or niacinamide in the solution is 1.0% w/w or higher.

. The aqueous solution of claim 7 which is an aqueous gel composition.

. A method for increasing the solubility capacity of betacyclodextrin comprising combining in an aqueous fluid the betacyclodextrin and niacin or niacinamide.

. The method of claim 13 wherein the aqueous fluid is at a temperature of 5° C.

. The method of claim 13 wherein the aqueous fluid is an aqueous gel.

. The method of claim 13 wherein the concentration of the niacin or niacinamide in the aqueous fluid is 0.5% w/w or higher.

. The aqueous solution of claim 16 wherein the concentration of the niacin or niacinamide in the aqueous fluid is 1.0% w/w or higher.
