Abstract

A medical catheter comprising a first return lumen, a plurality of withdrawal lumens, a first clamping member and a plurality of intake extension tubes. Each intake extension tube communicates with an intake lumen of the catheter to provide fluid communication with the respective intake lumens. The intake extension tubes are positioned in a stacked arrangement, and the clamping member has a plurality of posts to receive the stacked tubes to limit lateral movement thereof.

Claims (22)

1. A medical catheter comprising a first return lumen, a plurality of withdrawal lumens, a first clamping member and a plurality of intake extension tubes each having a diameter, each intake extension tube communicating with one of the withdrawal lumens to provide fluid communication with the respective withdrawal lumen, the intake extension tubes positioned in a stacked arrangement, and the first clamping member having a first arm having a first opening, the first opening having a first length and a first width, the first length exceeding the first width, a second arm having a second opening, the second opening having a second length and a second width, the second length exceeding the second width, the first and second arms engageable with one another to retain the clamp in a closed position to cut off flow within the stacked tubes, and a plurality of posts extending from the second arm positioned between the first and second openings and spaced apart to create a gap therebetween to receive the stacked tubes within the gap to cooperate with the first and second openings to limit lateral movement thereof and maintain the tubes in the stacked arrangement.

2. The catheter of claim 1 , further comprising an independent venous extension tube communicating with the return lumen of the catheter.

3. The catheter of claim 2 , further comprising a first tag connected to the first clamping member to provide information to the user.

4. The catheter of claim 3 , further comprising a second clamping member for clamping the venous extension tube and a second tag connected to the second clamping member.

5. The catheter of claim 4 , wherein the first tag comprises a first and second side wall and a bridge extending between the first and second side walls.

6. The combination of claim 4 , wherein the second tag includes first and second sidewalls and a bridge extending between the first and second sidewalls.

7. The combination of claim 1 , further comprising an extension movable into engagement with a topmost tube of the stacked tubes, the extension movable to a position between the posts.

8. In combination a clamping member and a plurality of extension tubes of a medical catheter for delivering and withdrawing blood from a patient's body, the combination comprising:

a plurality of intake extension tubes each communicating with an intake lumen of the catheter to provide fluid communication with the respective intake lumens, the intake extension tubes positioned in a stacked arrangement; and

a first clamping member, the first clamping member having a first clamping arm having a first opening having a first length and a first width, the first length exceeding the first width, a second arm having a second opening having a second length and a second width, the second length exceeding the second width, and a plurality of posts spaced from the first clamping arm in an open position of the clamping member, the plurality of posts extending from the second arm and spaced apart to create a gap therebetween to receive the stacked tubes within the gap to cooperate with the first and second openings to limit lateral movement thereof and maintain the tubes in the stacked arrangement, the first clamping arm pivotable to engage the second arm to retain the clamp in a closed position to cut off flow within the stacked tubes.

9. The combination of claim 8 , further comprising a luer and an adapter interposed between the plurality of intake extension tubes and the luer.

10. The combination of claim 9 , wherein the adapter has three openings arranged in a triangular arrangement to receive and reorient the extension tubes.

11. The combination of claim 8 , further comprising an independent venous extension tube communicating with a return lumen of the catheter.

12. The combination of claim 11 , wherein the first clamping member has a pair of proximal posts and a pair of distal posts spaced from the proximal posts.

13. The combination of claim 8 , further comprising a first tag connected to the first clamping member to provide information to the user.

14. The combination of claim 13 , wherein the first tag comprises a first and second side wall and a bridge extending between the first and second side walls.

15. The combination of claim 14 , wherein the bridge of the first tag abuts one of the pair of posts of the first clamping member.

16. The combination of claim 13 , further comprising a second clamping member for clamping the venous extension tube and a second tag connected to the second clamping member.

17. The combination of claim 16 , wherein the second tag includes first and second sidewalls and a bridge extending between the first and second sidewalls.

18. The combination of claim 16 , wherein the first clamping member has a pair of proximal posts and a pair spaced distal posts.

19. The combination of claim 8 , further comprising a second clamping member for clamping the venous extension tube and a second tag connected to the second clamping member.

20. The combination of claim 8 , further comprising an extension movable into engagement with a topmost tube of the stacked tubes, the extension movable to a position between the posts.
