Abstract

The invention provides a novel compressed tubular tissue supports ( 1 ) that can easily be introduced into vessels requiring support.

Claims (17)

1 . A radially expandable tubular tissue support comprising at least one shape-memory material, wherein said radially expandable tubular tissue support comprises a tube in the temporary shape of the shape-memory materials, and wherein said tube has been folded one or more times along its longitudinal axis.

2 . The tubular tissue support according to claim 1 , wherein the tube is folded inwards.

3 . The tubular tissue support according to claim 1 , wherein the length of the tube is in the range from approximately 1 to approximately 15 cm and its diameter is from approximately 1 to approximately 15 mm.

4 . The tubular tissue support according to claim 1 , wherein a permanent shape of the tubular support has one of a straight shape or a curved shape.

5 . The tubular tissue support according to claim 1 , wherein the shape-memory material comprises at least one polymer.

6 . The tubular tissue support according to claim 1 , wherein the polymer is at least one of a networks, a thermoplastic or a blend.

A process for production of a radially expandable tubular tissue support in a temporary shape of a shape-memory material, wherein a tube with a shaping of its permanent shape is converted to its temporary shape via heating at or above a transition temperature T trans of the shape-memory material, comprising the steps of: folding the tube one or more times within itself via pressure of one or more segments into the longitudinal axis of the tube and stabilizing the folded tube in its temporary shape by reducing the temperature below T trans .

9 . The process according to claim 8 , wherein the transition temperature of the shape-memory material is in the range from approximately 20° C. to approximately 70° C.

10 . The process according to claim 9 , wherein the transition temperature of the shape-memory material is in the range from approximately 30° C. to approximately 50° C.

11 . The process according to claim 10 , wherein the transition temperature of the shape-memory material is in the range from approximately 35° C. to approximately 45° C.

12 . A process for production of a radially expandable tubular tissue supporting a temporary shape of a shape-memory material, comprising the steps of: converting a tube with the shaping of its permanent shape into a temporary shape by irradiation; folding the tube one or more times within itself via pressure of one or more segments into the longitudinal axis of the tube; and stabilizing the folded tube in its temporary shape by reducing the temperature below T trans .

13 . The process according to claim 12 , wherein a diameter of a segment is smaller than the diameter of the tube.

14 . The process according to claim 13 , wherein a diameter of a segment is from approximately 10% to approximately 50% smaller than the diameter of the tube.

15 . The process according to claim 14 , wherein the shape of a segment is that of the tube in its permanent shape.

16 . The process according to any of claim 15 , wherein two or more segments are pressed from outside into the tube.

17 . The use of folded tissue supports composed of a shape-memory material in a temporary shape for introduction into a relevant vessel.
