Abstract

A server implemented method for facilitating execution of an application for a wireless device. The server selects a plurality of scene components. The scene components comprise at least one functional unit operable to execute functions associated with the scene components. The functions of said functional units are a portion of an application operable to be executed by the wireless device. The server further selects a plurality of assets. The assets are operable to be used in rendering a scene utilizing said plurality of scene components. The server determines a partition of functionality of the application which defines a server behavior module for executing on the server and a client behavior module for executing on the wireless device. The server customizes the plurality of scene components and the plurality of assets for the wireless device. The plurality of scene components and plurality of assets are sent to the wireless device for execution and rendering.

Claims (37)

1. A server system, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor operable to execute code configured to facilitate execution of a first instance of an application for a first wireless device and a second instance of the application for a second wireless device, said processor being operable to implement:

a device profile library operable to store a first device profile describing a capability of the first wireless device and a second device profile describing a capability of the second wireless device;

a functionality determiner operable to determine, using the first device profile and the second device profile, a first partition of functionality of said first instance of said application and a second partition of functionality of said second instance of said application, said first partition defining a first portion of said first instance of said application configured to be executed on said server and a second portion of said first instance of said application configured to be executed on the first wireless device, said second partition defining a first portion of said second instance of said application configured to be executed on said server and a second portion of said second instance of said application configured to be executed on the second wireless device, said second portion of said first instance of said application being different than said second portion of said second instance of said application; and

a scene generator operable to generate a plurality of scene components having at least one functional unit operable to execute functions associated with said scene components, said functions of said functional units are a portion of said application, said application operable to generate a plurality of assets to be used in rendering a scene utilizing said plurality of screen components.

2. The server system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is further operable to implement:

a request receiver operable to receive a request to initialize said application for the first wireless device, wherein said request includes wireless device information, the functionality determiner configured to query the device profile library for the first device profile using the wireless device information.

3. The server system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is further operable to implement:

a communications facilitator operable to initiate asynchronous communication with said first wireless device.

4. The server system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is further

operable to implement:

a content injector operable to inject dynamic content into said plurality of scene components.

5. The server system of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of assets includes at least one graphic customized for the first wireless device.

6. The server system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is further operable to implement:

a content injector operable to inject static content into said plurality of scene components.

7. The server system of claim 6 , wherein said static content is text.

8. The server system of claim 1 wherein said plurality of scene components includes a layout adapted for the first wireless device.

9. A server implemented method comprising:

receiving, at the server, a first indication of a capability of a first wireless device;

selecting a plurality of scene components, including at least one behavior module operable

to execute functionality associated with said plurality of scene components;

selecting a plurality of assets operable to be used in rendering a scene utilizing said plurality of scene components;

determining, based on said first indication, a first partition of functionality of a first instance of an application, said first partition defining a server behavior module associated with a portion of said first instance of said application configured to be executed on said server and a client behavior module associated with a portion of said first instance of the application configured to be executed on the wireless device;

customizing said plurality of scene components and said plurality of assets for the wireless device based on said first indication;

sending said plurality of scene components to the wireless device; and

sending said plurality of assets to the wireless device;

receiving, at the server, a second indication of a capability of a second wireless device; and

determining, based on said second indication, a second partition of functionality of a second instance of said application, said second partition defining a server behavior module associated with a portion of said second instance of said application configured to be executed on said server and a client behavior module associated with a portion of said second instance of said application configured to be executed on the second wireless device, said portion of said second instance of said application configured to be executed on the second wireless device being different than said portion of said first instance of said application configured to be executed on the first wireless device.

10. The server implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the process of receiving, at the server, a first indication of a capability of a first wireless device includes receiving a request to initialize said first instance of said application for the first wireless device.

11. The server implemented method of claim 9 , further comprising: initiating asynchronous communication to the first wireless device.

12. The server implemented method of claim 9 , further comprising:

injecting dynamic content into said plurality of scene components.

13. The server implemented method of claim 9 , wherein at least one of said plurality of scene components is in one of an Extensible Markup Language (XML) format or a compiled binary format.

14. The server implemented method of claim 9 , wherein said plurality of assets include at least one graphic customized for the first wireless device based on said first indication.

15. The server implemented method of claim 9 , wherein said plurality of scene components are customized, based on said first indication, to adapt to an animation pattern of the first wireless device.

16. The server implemented method of claim 9 , wherein said plurality of scene components includes a layout adapted for the first wireless device.
