Abstract

Nucleic acids encoding mammalian Toll-like receptors (TLRs) have been identified in human cells. Recombinantly produced TLRs are used in the preparation of antibodies that are capable of binding to the TLRs. The antibodies are advantageously used in the prevention and treatment of septic shock, inflammatory conditions, and viral infections.

Claims (3)

1. A method of treating a patient having sepsis or septic shock, comprising administering to said patient an antibody or an antigen-binding fragment thereof that specifically binds to an isolated or recombinant polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 8.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said antibody or antigen-binding fragment is administered intravenously.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said antibody or antigen-binding fragment is administered subcutaneously.
