Abstract

The invention relates to an illumination unit for point illumination of a medium comprising a plurality of light emitters in the form of light guides, which are arranged to illuminate at least one illumination face via a light valve arrangement, said light valve arrangement comprising a plurality of electrically controlled light valves, at least one of the light emitters ( 1 ) being arranged to illuminate a plurality of light valves.

Claims (7)

1. A method for point illumination of a light sensitive medium, comprising

forming patterned beams onto a light sensitive medium by at least two arrays of individually controllable light valves;

displacing the light sensitive medium and the patterned beams relatively, such that the patterned beams are scanned across the light sensitive medium in a scanning direction;

individually controlling the light valves of said individually controlled light valves in dependency of the relative movement between the patterned beams and the light sensitive medium; and

positioning the at least two arrays of individually controllable light valves on the an illumination head relative to each other, such that the arrays are mutually displaced on the illumination head and such that the respective target areas scanned by the patterned beams are contiguous

wherein one and only one first optical fiber transmits light to a first of the at least two arrays of individually controlled light valves and wherein one and only one second optical fiber transmits light to a second of the at least two arrays of individually controlled light valves.

2. A method for illumination of a light sensitive medium according to claim 1 , wherein the patterned beams of the illumination head are directed towards the light sensitive medium using a plurality of lenses.
