Abstract

The invention relates to a fluidic arrangement for a printer. The arrangement includes an ink tank for storing ink, and an ink distribution assembly in fluid communication with the ink tank for supplying printhead integrated circuits (ICs) positioned thereon with ink from the ink tank. The arrangement also includes a valve arranged in an ink line between the ink distribution assembly and the ink tank, said valve configured to isolate ink in the ink tank from the printhead ICs whenever the printer is powered down. Further included is a pump located downstream from the ink distribution assembly, and a sump arranged in fluid communication with the pump for receiving excess ink from the ink distribution assembly.

Claims (12)

1. A fluidic arrangement for a printer, the arrangement comprising:

an ink tank for storing ink;

an ink distribution assembly in fluid communication with the ink tank for supplying printhead integrated circuits (ICs) positioned thereon with ink from the ink tank;

a valve arranged in an ink line between the ink distribution assembly and the ink tank, said valve configured to isolate ink in the ink tank from the printhead ICs whenever the printer is powered down;

a pump located downstream from the ink distribution assembly; and

a sump arranged in fluid communication with the pump for receiving excess ink from the ink distribution assembly.

2. The arrangement of claim 1 , having a pump controller configured to control the valve and the pump.

3. The arrangement of claim 2 , wherein the ink tank includes a venting bubble point pressure regulator configured to maintain a constant negative hydrostatic pressure in the ink at the printhead ICs.

4. The arrangement of claim 3 , wherein the venting bubble point pressure regulator includes a bubble outlet submerged in the ink of the tank and vented to the atmosphere via a sealed conduit extending to an air inlet of the tank.

5. The arrangement of claim 1 , having a printhead maintenance station configured to seal the ICs to avoid dehydration of the printhead ICs as well as to shield the ICs from paper dust and other particulates.

6. The arrangement of claim 1 , which includes an ink sensor located downstream in an ink line leading from the ink distribution assembly to the pump.

7. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein an outlet of the ink tank includes a filter to minimize particulate fouling in the arrangement.
