Abstract

A Web-based application constructor can be used to construct a web display. The web-based application constructor can obtain data from heterogeneous data sources having Web Services schemas to produce the web display. The web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some heterogeneous data sources. A versioning system can keep track of changes to page components, page layout, searches, and text to allow users to make changes without administrative approval. A change control system can allow users to dynamically undo changes to page components, page layout, searches, and text while using the web-based application constructor.

Claims (51)

1 . A system comprising:

a web-based application constructor for constructing a web display, the web-based application constructor obtaining data from heterogeneous data sources to produce the web display;

the web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some of the heterogeneous data sources;

a versioning system that keeps track of changes to page components; and

a change control system to allow users to dynamically undo changes to page components while using the web-based application constructor.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the page components contain interactive elements.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the interactive pages component include forms.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein all page editing is versioned.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein whether a page component is displayed to a user is controlled by roles and security.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein page layout is versioned.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein versions of the page are stored at a remote server.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein AJAX at a browser sends version update information to the remote server.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the change control system allows for a redo of changes.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein versions are time stamped and changes can be rolled back up to a previous time.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the versioning system keeps track of changes to page layout, searches, and text to allow users to make changes without administrative approval.

12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the change control system further allow users to dynamically undo changes to page layout, searches, and text while using the web-based application constructor.

13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the heterogeneous data sources have Web Services schemas.

14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein page components have their own URL.

15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the display is constructed from available applications, wherein available applications can be dragged and dropped into page components.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the heterogeneous data sources is a searchable resource and when the display provides for a search field into the searchable resource, the result of a search are shown in a page component of the display.

17 . The system of claim 1 , wherein page components has their own URLs and page components can be dragged and dropped to a new display.

18 . A method comprising:

obtaining data from heterogeneous data sources to produce a web display, the web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some heterogeneous data sources;

keeping track of changes to page components to allow users to make changes; and

dynamically undo changes to page components while using the web-based application constructor.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the page components contain interactive elements.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the interactive pages component include forms.

21 . The method of claim 18 , wherein all page editing is versioned.

22 . The method of claim 18 , wherein whether a page component is displayed to a user is controlled by roles and security.

23 . The method of claim 18 , wherein page layout is versioned.

24 . The method of claim 18 , wherein versions of the page are stored at a remote server.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein AJAX at a browser sends version update information to the remote server

26 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the change control system allows for a redo of changes.

27 . The method of claim 18 , wherein versions are time stamped and changes can be rolled back up to a period of time.

28 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising keeping track of changes to page layout, searches, and text to allow users to make changes without administrative approval.

29 . The method of claim 18 , wherein page components have their own URL.

30 . A computer readable medium comprising code to:

obtain data from heterogeneous data sources to produce a web display, the web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some heterogeneous data sources; and

keep track of changes to page components, page layout, searches, and text to allow users to make changes without administrative approval and

dynamically undoing changes to page components while using the web-based application constructor.

31 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein the page components contain interactive elements.

32 . The computer readable medium of claim 31 , wherein the interactive pages component include forms.

33 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein all page editing is versioned.

34 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein whether a page component is displayed to a user is controlled by roles and security.

35 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein page layout is versioned.

36 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein versions of the page are stored at a remote server.

37 . The computer readable medium of claim 36 , wherein AJAX at a browser sends version update information to the remote server

38 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein the change control system allows for a redo of changes.

39 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein versions are time stamped and changes can be rolled back up to a period of time.

40 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , further comprising dynamically undoing changes to page components, page layout, searches, and text while using the web-based application constructor.

41 . The computer readable medium of claim 30 , wherein page components have their own URL.
