Abstract

A web-based application constructor can be used for constructing a web display. The web-based application Constructor can obtain data from heterogeneous data sources having web services schemas to produce the web display. The web display can contain page components and display the data from at least some of the heterogeneous data sources. An XML editor framework can be adapted to use web services schemas to automatically create a user interfaces for inputting data in fields determined from the web service schemas.

Claims (25)

1 . A system, comprising:

a web-based application Constructor for constructing a web display, the web-based application Constructor obtaining data from heterogeneous data sources having web services schemas to produce the web display;

the web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some of the heterogeneous data sources; and

an XML editor framework adapted to use web services schemas to automatically create a user interfaces for inputting data in fields determined from the web service schemas.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein page components has their own URLs and page components can be dragged and dropped to a new display.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein changes to a page component are propagated back to the application.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the web-based application Constructor provides roles to users that can be used to limit access to applications.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the application Constructor converts at least one object from a heterogeneous data source into a page component.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system allows for the construction of user interfaces to access different types of data.

7 . A system, comprising:

a web-based application constructor for constructing a web display, the web-based application constructor obtaining data from heterogeneous data sources having web services schemas to produce the web display;

the web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some of the heterogeneous data sources; wherein at least one page component contains data that has been converted into a list format.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein clicking on elements of the list will access additional details.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the list can be annotated.

10 . A system, comprising:

a web-based application constructor for constructing a web display, the web-based application constructor obtaining data from heterogeneous data sources to produce the web display; and

the web display containing page components and displaying the data from at least some of the heterogeneous data sources, wherein a page display has a nested layout.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the nested layout includes rows and columns in a cell defined by rows and columns.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein page components are dragged and dropped so to change the layout.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein new columns and/or rows are created by the dragging and dropping.

14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the page components are defined as being positioned left, right, up or down of a previous page layout location.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the HTML is updated at a server as a result of the dragging and dropping.

16 . The system of claim 10 , wherein different rows can have different numbers of columns.

17 . The system of claim 10 , wherein AJAX at a browser sends page layout instruction to a server to create new HTML for a page.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the AJAX updates the page at the browser without refresh
