Abstract

A filter assembly includes a filter element mounted in a housing at a sealing interface provided by an integrally molded seal.

Claims (2)

1. A filter assembly comprising a filter element having a fluid filtering flow path therethrough and mounted in a housing at a sealing interface preventing bypass around said filter element such that fluid must follow said fluid filtering flow path through said filter element and be filtered thereby, said sealing interface being between first and second components engaging each other in sealing relation and being slidable along each other in an axial direction along an axis, said first component having at least one seal extending radially and obliquely relative to said axis and engaging said second component, wherein said seal is an annular frustoconical flex ring effecting said seal by both radial flexing and circumferential compression and in direct contact with said second component without a gasket therebetween, wherein said first component slides axially along said second component in a first axial direction during installation, and slides axially along said second component in a second opposite axial direction during removal, and said seal angles from said first component at an acute angle having a vector component pointing in said second axial direction, wherein said filter element is an annular filter element extending axially along said axis between distally opposite first and second axial ends, said first end having an annular plastic end cap thereat providing said first component integrally molded with said annular frustoconical flex ring providing said seal, said annular plastic end cap having an annular outer peripheral surface facing radially outwardly and having said seal integrally molded therewith and extending radially outwardly therefrom, wherein said seal comprises at least one flexible annular flange radially deflectable relative to said axis and extending obliquely to said axis.

2. The filter assembly according to claim 1 wherein said seal comprises a plurality of annular frustoconical flex rings effecting said seal by both radial flexing and circumferential compression.
