SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SHARING PLAYLISTS
A system for sharing playlists utilizes a network, such as the Internet. A player device other than a general purpose computer, such as a dedicated media player or a remote control for a dedicated media player, is in communication with the server over the network. The player device is configured to receive a playlist, queue the playlist, display the playlist, and play a selection from the playlist. A user profile may be used to identify playlists that are likely to contain selections of interest to the user.
1 . A method comprising:
identifying a select playlist from a plurality of playlists to be delivered to a media player device of a first user, the select playlist being that of a second user;
effecting delivery of the select playlist to the media player device; and
automatically updating the select playlist at the media player device of the first user in response to a change made to the select playlist by the second user.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein automatically updating the select playlist comprises automatically adding a media content item to the select playlist at the media player device in response to addition of the media content item to the select playlist by the second user at a remote location.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein effecting delivery of the select playlist to the media player device comprises effecting delivery of the select playlist from a server storing the plurality of playlists to the media player device.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein effecting delivery of the select playlist to the media player device comprises effecting delivery of the select playlist to the media player device from a first peer media player device of a plurality of peer media player devices forming a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network and storing the plurality of playlists.
