Abstract

A maintenance assembly for a pagewidth printer, said assembly operatively mounted between posts of a main body of the printer so that the maintenance assembly is positioned adjacent a printhead assembly of the printer. The maintenance assembly includes a maintenance chassis defining tongue portions and having ends which are shaped to fit over the posts of the main body to secure the maintenance assembly in position. The maintenance assembly also includes a retainer element operatively engaging the chassis, and a lower molding and an upper molding operatively fast with each other to sandwich an absorbent insert between them. The moldings are in turn sandwiched between the chassis and retainer element, so that the maintenance assembly is useable to wipe the printhead of the printer.

Claims (7)

1. A maintenance assembly for a pagewidth printer, said maintenance assembly operatively mounted between posts of a main body of the printer and positioned adjacent a printhead assembly of the printer, the maintenance assembly comprising:

a maintenance chassis defining at its ends a pair of upwardly extending tongue portions and having ends shaped to fit over the posts of the main body to secure the maintenance assembly in position;

a retainer element operatively engaging the chassis; and

a lower molding and an upper molding operatively fast with each other to sandwich an absorbent insert between them, the moldings in turn sandwiched between the chassis and retainer element, the maintenance assembly for wiping the printhead of the printer,

wherein the maintenance chassis is in the form of an open ended channel made from pressed steel plate; wherein the maintenance chassis includes a centrally located removed portion for positioning a catch element.

2. The maintenance assembly of claim 1 , wherein the maintenance chassis also includes window portions and spring arms extending from either side of the window portions, the spring arms angled internally in the chassis and formed by pressing the sheet metal of the chassis.

3. The maintenance assembly of claim 2 , having a rigid insert which fits within the chassis to provide added rigidity to the maintenance assembly, the catch element projecting from a base of the rigid insert and extending into the centrally located removed portion of the chassis when the rigid insert is located within the chassis.
