Abstract

Amongst other things, one or more requests is received from at least one consumer of services to consult with a service provider associated with a brokerage system and having a service provider profile that satisfies at least some attributes in a set of attributes. The consumer demand is measured for consultations with one or more service providers associated with the brokerage system and having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in the set of attributes. A supply of active service providers associated with the system and having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in the set of attributes is also measured. It is determined whether an imbalance exists between the consumer demand for and the supply of active service providers having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in the set of attributes.

tracking a number of service providers accepting the invitations; and

notifying additional service providers if the number of service providers accepting the invitations is less than a number of service providers needed to meet the consumer demand.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:

providing a graphical user interface that when rendered on a display displays for the service provider a visual indication of the imbalance.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:

calculating a number of providers to notify of the imbalance based at least in part on an amount of the imbalance.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:

adjusting a frequency of the consumer demand and provider supply measurements based on an amount of the imbalance.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein determining whether an imbalance exists comprises:

calculating whether an amount of consumer demand is not met by the active service providers.

11 . A computer program product residing on a computer readable medium, the computer program product comprising instructions for causing a computer to:

receive one or more requests from at least one consumer of services to consult with a service provider associated with a brokerage system and having a service provider profile that satisfies at least some attributes in a set of attributes;

measure consumer demand for consultations with one or more service providers associated with the brokerage system and having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in the set of attributes;

measure a supply of active service providers associated with the system and having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in the set of attributes; and

determine whether an imbalance exists between the consumer demand for and the supply of active service providers having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in the set of attributes.

12 . The computer program product of claim 11 further comprising instructions to:

identify one or more unavailable service providers having service provider profiles that satisfy at least some attributes in a set of attributes; and

generate a list of the identified unavailable service providers.

13 . The computer program product of claim 12 further comprising instructions to:

order the list of identified unavailable service providers based on one or more system defined rules.

track a number of service providers accepting the invitations; and

notify additional service providers if the number of service providers accepting the invitations is less than a number of service providers needed to meet the consumer demand.

17 . The computer program product of claim 11 further comprising instructions to:

provide a graphical user interface that when rendered on a display displays for the service provider a visual indication of the imbalance.

18 . The computer program product of claim 11 further comprising instructions to:

calculate a number of providers to notify of the imbalance based at least in part on an amount of the imbalance.

19 . The computer program product of claim 11 further comprising instructions to:

adjust a frequency of the consumer demand and provider supply measurements based on an amount of the imbalance.

20 . The computer program product of claim 11 wherein instructions to determine whether an imbalance exists comprises instructions to:

calculate whether an amount of consumer demand is not met by the active service providers.

21 . An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

a computer program product residing on a computer readable medium, the computer program product comprising instructions for causing the processor to:
