Abstract

An LED light and communication system in communication with a broadband over power line communications system. The LED light and communication system includes at least one optical transceiver. The optical transceiver includes a light support having a plurality of light emitting diodes and at least one photodetector attached thereto, and a processor. The processor is in communication with the light emitting diodes and the at least one photodetector. The processor is constructed and arranged to generate a communication signal. The at least one optical transceiver is engaged to a clock, and the clock is in communication with the broadband over power line communications system.

Claims (15)

1 . In combination, an LED light and communication system in communication with a broadband over power line communications system, the LED light and communication system comprising:

at least one optical transceiver, the optical transceiver comprising:

a light support having a plurality of light emitting diodes and at least one photodetector attached thereto; and

a processor in communication with the light emitting diodes and the at least one photodetector, the processor constructed and arranged to generate a communication signal,

wherein the at least one optical transceiver is engaged to a clock, and

wherein the clock is in communication with the broadband over power line communications system.

2 . The combination of claim 1 , wherein the at least one optical transceiver is constructed and arranged to communicate with a name tag.

3 . The combination of claim 2 , further comprising a name tag.

4 . The combination of claim 3 , wherein the name tag comprises at least one optical transceiver.

5 . The combination of claim 4 , wherein the name tag includes a unique identifier.

6 . The combination of claim 4 , wherein the unique identifier is stored in non-volatile memory.

7 . The combination of claim 1 , wherein the at least one optical transceiver is constructed and arranged to communicate with a thermostat.

8 . The combination of claim 1 , wherein the at least one optical transceiver is constructed and arranged to communicate with a video camera.

9 . The combination of claim 1 , wherein the at least one optical transceiver is constructed and arranged to communicate with a public address system.

10 . The combination of claim 1 , wherein the at least one optical transceiver is constructed and arranged to communicate with a smoke detector.
