Abstract

Process for the joint production of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate crystals, according to which: Solid powder derived from sodium sesquicarbonate, having a mean particle diameter comprised between 0,1 and 10 mm is dissolved in water; The resulting water solution is introduced into a crystallizer, wherein a first water suspension comprising sodium carbonate crystals is produced; The first water suspension is subjected to a separation, in order to produce crystals comprising sodium carbonate on the one hand, which are valorized, and a mother liquor on the other hand; Part of the mother liquor is taken out of the crystallizer and put into contact in, a gas liquid contactor, with a gas comprising carbon dioxide, in order to produce a second water suspension comprising sodium bicarbonate crystals, which are separated and valorized

Claims (31)

1 . A process for the joint production of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate crystals, comprising:

dissolving in water a solid powder derived from sodium sesquicarbonate, said solid powder having a mean particle diameter comprised between 0.1 and 10 mm;

introducing the resulting water solution into a crystallizer, wherein a first water suspension comprising sodium carbonate crystals is produced;

subjecting the first water suspension to a separation, in order to obtain crystals comprising sodium carbonate on the one hand, and a mother liquor on the other hand; and

taking a part of the mother liquor out of the crystallizer and putting it into contact, in a gas liquid contactor, with a gas comprising carbon dioxide, in order to produce a second water suspension comprising sodium bicarbonate crystals, which are separated,

wherein, when the mother liquor which is taken out of the crystallizer contains at least 10 g/kg NaCl, said crystalline sodium bicarbonate obtainable by said process comprises from 0.1 to 1 g/kg NaCl, and/or

wherein, when the mother liquor which is taken out of the crystallizer contains at least 1 g/kg of Na 2 SO 4, said crystalline sodium bicarbonate obtainable by said process comprises from 0.01 to 0.1 g/kg Na 2 SO 4 .

2 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the powder derived from sodium sesquicarbonate is calcined sodium sesquicarbonate.

3 . The reagent powder according to claim 2 , wherein the sodium carbonate crystals which are obtained out of the first water suspension are in the monohydrate form.

4 . The reagent powder according to claim 3 , wherein the mother liquor which is taken out of the crystallizer contains at least 175 g/kg of sodium carbonate.

5 . (canceled)

6 . (canceled)

7 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the gas comprising carbon dioxide comprises at least 20% CO 2 .

8 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the gas comprising CO 2 is produced by indirect calcination of a composition releasing CO 2 upon calcination.

9 . A reagent powder comprising sodium bicarbonate crystals obtainable by a process comprising:

dissolving in water a solid powder derived from sodium sesquicarbonate, said solid powder having a mean particle diameter comprised between 0.1 and 10 mm:

introducing the resulting water solution into a crystallizer, wherein a first water suspension comprising sodium carbonate crystals is produced;

subjecting the first water suspension to a separation, in order to obtain crystals comprising sodium carbonate on the one hand, and a mother liquor on the other hand; and

taking a part of the mother liquor out of the crystallizer and putting it into contact, in a gas liquid contactor, with a gas comprising carbon dioxide, in order to produce a second water suspension comprising sodium bicarbonate crystals, which are separated; and

wherein said sodium bicarbonate crystals obtainable by said process comprise from 0.1 to 1 g/kg NaCl, when said mother liquor comprises at least 10 g/kg NaCl; and/or wherein said sodium bicarbonate crystals obtainable by said process comprise from 0.01 to 0.1 g/kg Na 2 SO 4, when said mother liquor comprises at least 1 g/kg Na 2 SO 4 .

10 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , comprising from 0.1 to 1 g/kg NaCl, from 0.01 to 0.1 g/kg Na 2 SO 4 and from 0.5 to 5 g/kg silica.

11 . A process for treating a gas containing noxious pollutants, according to which the reagent powder according to claim 9 is injected in the gas, the pollutants react with the reagent and the product of the reaction is separated from the gas.

12 . The process according to claim 11 wherein the pollutants comprise HCl and/or SO 2

13 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the sodium bicarbonate crystals contain Na 2 SO 4 , NaCl and silica, in an amount of less than 5 g/kg silica.

14 . (canceled)

15 . (canceled)

16 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the crystals of said reagent powder comprise from 0.5 to 5 g/kg silica.

17 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the sodium bicarbonate crystals contain Ca.

18 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the crystals have a median diameter (D 50 ) between 75 and 250 μm.

19 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the crystals have a D 10 diameter between 40 and 100 μm.

20 . The reagent powder according to claim 9 , wherein the crystals have a D 90 diameter between 175 and 500 μm
