Portable Rule Specification System and Method for Monitoring Information Events
A system and method for monitoring information events is configurable by user definable rule specifications. The rule specifications can be included in portable sharable rulebooks. The rulebooks are transportable and may be shared between users, workspaces and computer systems. Each rulebook may be implemented on a single computer or aspects of a rulebook may be distributed among a plurality of computers or computer resources.
. A system for monitoring information events comprising:
one or more portable rule specifications including rules defining one or more of:
rule specifications, PPSs, recipes, template specifications, wizards, access control lists, watch lists, event specifications, and process definitions.
. The system of claim 1 wherein said rule specifications are shareable between at least two entities selected from the group consisting of users, workspaces.
. The system of claim 1 wherein a plurality of instances of said system are operable and wherein said rule specifications are shareable between said instances.
. The system of claim 1 wherein a plurality of instances of said system are operable and wherein said rule specifications are transportable between said instances.
. The system of claim 1 further comprising means for sharing and transporting said rule specifications.
. The system of claim 1 comprising at least one extensible rulebook including a plurality of said rule specifications.
. The system of claim 1 wherein a plurality of said rules are associated with other workspace elements as recipes, wherein each recipe is operable to perform at least one event processing step.
. The system of claim 7 wherein said recipes define specified information sources, specified event queues for storing events generated from said specified information sources and rules that are operable on said events to generate responses.
. A data structure useable for monitoring information events comprising:
one or more shareable rule specifications including rules defining one or more relationships between events and responses.
. The data structure of claim 9 , wherein said rule specifications include two or more of rule description information, rule definitions, rights specifications and access credentials.
. The data structure of claim 9 wherein at least one aspect of said rule specifications are cryptographically protected.
. The data structure of claim 9 comprising means for sharing event producer rules, analytics rules and event responder rules.
. The data structure of claim 9 comprising at least one rulebook including one or more of said shareable rule specifications.
. The data structure of claim 13 wherein said rulebook(s) include one or more of rule specifications, PPSs, recipes, template specifications, wizards, access control lists, watch lists, event specifications and process definitions.
. The data structure of claim 13 wherein said rulebook is transportable between workspaces.
. The data structure of claim 13 wherein said rulebook is transportable between instances of an event monitoring system.
. The data structure of claim 13 wherein said rulebook includes access controls adapted to grant specified users accesses to said rulebook.
. The system of claim 2 wherein said rulebook includes access controls adapted to grant specified entities accesses to said rulebook.
. The system of claim 18 wherein said rulebook is mountable to one or more workspaces and wherein access to contents of said rulebook is provided to said workspace(s) in accordance with access controls of said rulebook.
. The system of claim 18 further comprising means for mounting said rulebook to one or more workspaces.
. The system of claim 18 further comprising means for unmounting said rulebook from one or more workspaces.
