Telecommunication call support for mobile devices with presence features
A system and method for achieving or assisting dynamic transfer of call support information across a network including at least a wireless portion coupled to a wireless communication device. The call support information providing the wireless communication device with updated caller identification and status or presence information by way of a service or server provisioned product and method.
1. A method for processing information on a mobile communication device, comprising:
requesting a wireless connection between the mobile communication device and a server;
receiving contact information relating to a contact known to a user of the mobile communication device from the server, said contact information including contact identification information;
storing said contact information and said contact identification information on the mobile communication device;
receiving communication data associated with an incoming call from the contact, wherein the incoming call is received substantially concurrently with or seen after the contact information is received and stored at the mobile communication device;
comparing said contact identification information stored by the mobile communication device and the communication data associated with the incoming call; and
presenting a result of said comparing to a user of said mobile communication device.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving from the server a user name of said contact indicative of the contact's identity in the context of a subscription service.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the contact originates the incoming call from a personal computer (PC).
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the contact information is sent to the mobile communication device from the server in response to a request by the contact to originate the incoming call with the mobile communication device.
5. A method for processing information on a server, comprising:
establishing a connection to a mobile communication device;
receiving, from a contact of the mobile communication device, a request to initiate a call between the contact and the mobile communication device;
transmitting, to the mobile communication device and in response to the received request, contact information configured to identify the contact; and
transmitting, separate from the transmitted contact information, an announce message for announcing the call to the mobile communication device, wherein the announce message is configured to be recognized by the mobile communication device as being associated with the contact based upon the transmitted contact information.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the contact corresponds to a personal computer (PC).
7. A mobile communication device configured to obtain contact information in conjunction with a call, comprising:
means for requesting a wireless connection between the mobile communication device and a server;
means for receiving contact information relating to a contact known to a user of the mobile communication device from the server, said contact information including contact identification information;
means for storing said contact information and said contact identification information on the mobile communication device;
means for receiving communication data associated with an incoming call from the contact, wherein the incoming call is received substantially concurrently with or seen after the contact information is received and stored at the mobile communication device;
means for comparing said contact identification information stored by the mobile communication device and the communication data associated with the incoming call; and
means for presenting a result of said comparing to a user of said mobile communication device.
8. A server configured to provide contact information in conjunction with a call, comprising:
means for establishing a connection to a mobile communication device;
means for receiving, from a contact of the mobile communication device, a request to initiate a call between the contact and the mobile communication device;
means for transmitting, to the mobile communication device and in response to the received request, contact information configured to identify the contact; and
means for transmitting, separate from the transmitted contact information, an announce message for announcing the call to the mobile communication device, wherein the announce message is configured to be recognized by the mobile communication device as being associated with the contact based upon the transmitted contact information.
9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by a mobile communication device configured to obtain contact information in conjunction with a call, cause the mobile communication device to perform actions, the instructions comprising:
program code to request a wireless connection between the mobile communication device and a server;
program code to receive contact information relating to a contact known to a user of the mobile communication device from the server, said contact information including contact identification information;
program code to store said contact information and said contact identification information on the wireless communication device;
program code to receive communication data associated with an incoming call from the contact, wherein the incoming call is received substantially concurrently with or after the contact information is received and stored at the mobile communication device;
program code to compare said contact identification information stored by the mobile communication device and the communication data associated with the incoming call; and
program code to present a result of said comparing to a user of said mobile communication device.
10. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by a server configured to provide contact information in conjunction with a call, cause the server to perform actions, the instructions comprising:
program code to establish a connection to a mobile communication device;
program code to receive, from a contact of the mobile communication device, a request to initiate the call between the contact and the mobile communication device;
program code to transmit, to the mobile communication device and in response to the received request, contact information configured to identify the contact; and
program code to transmit, separate from the transmitted contact information, an announce message for announcing the call to the mobile communication device, wherein the announce message is configured to be recognized by the mobile communication device as being associated with the contact based upon the transmitted contact information.
11. A mobile communication device configured to obtain contact information in conjunction with a call, comprising:
a component for requesting a wireless connection between the mobile communication device and a server;
a component for receiving contact information relating to a contact known to a user of the mobile communication device from the server, said contact information including contact identification information;
a component for storing said contact information and said contact identification information on the mobile communication device;
a component for receiving communication data associated with an incoming call from the contact, wherein the incoming call is received substantially concurrently with or after the contact information is received and stored at the mobile communication device;
a component for comparing said contact identification information stored by the mobile communication device and the communication data associated with the incoming call; and
a component for presenting a result of said comparing to a user of said mobile communication device.
12. A server configured to provide contact information in conjunction with a call, comprising:
a component for establishing a connection to a mobile communication device;
a component for receiving, from a contact of the mobile communication device, a request to initiate a call between the contact and the mobile communication device;
a component for transmitting, to the mobile communication device and in response to the received request, contact information configured to identify the contact; and
a component for transmitting, separate from the transmitted contact information, an announce message for announcing the call to the mobile communication device, wherein the announce message is configured to be recognized by the mobile communication device as being associated with the contact based upon the transmitted contact information.
