Abstract

A portable support system having a portable support having a first end and a second end. The first end includes a tapered portion, and the second end includes a footing structure. The system also includes a receiving member having a support cone configured to receive the tapered portion. The support cone has a tapered inner surface and a tapered outer surface. The inner surface and outer surface are engagable with mating tapered surfaces. The receiving member is capable of attachment to one or both of a frame and a panel for use as a platform.

Claims (39)

1. A portable support system comprising:

a portable support having a first end and a second end, the first end having a tapered portion, and the second end includes a footing structure; and

a receiving member having a casing including a support cone configured to receive the tapered portion, the support cone having a tapered inner surface and a tapered outer surface, the outer surface and the casing forming a cavity capable of receiving a corresponding tapered footing structure, the inner surface and outer surface being engagable with mating tapered surfaces, at least one of the tapered surfaces being the tapered portion, the receiving member being capable of attachment to one or both of a frame and a panel for use as a platform.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the portable support further includes a latching feature extending through the tapered portion, the latching feature being actuatable to permit selective engagement and disengagement with a receiving member.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the receiving member further includes a pin for providing rotational positioning.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the footing structure is selected from the group consisting of a hook member, a stake member, a post member, a coupling member configured to engage the outer surface of the support cone of another receiving member, and combinations thereof.

5. The system of claim 2 , wherein the footing structure includes a coupling member configured to engage the outer surface of the support cone of another receiving member.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the latching feature is attached to a retention device that is actuated by a releasing mechanism, the releasing mechanism being actuatable by hand.

7. The system of claim 3 , wherein the portable support further comprises at least one channel configured to mate the pin and rotationally orient the portable support.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the geometry of the tapered portion is selected from the group consisting of pyramidal, conical, frusto-conical, and any combinations thereof.

9. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a secondary support structure configured to permit the attachment of a secondary support.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein the tapered portion has a frusto-conical geometry.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein the receiving member includes at least one magnetic panel.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one magnetic panel includes plurality of magnets arranged and disposed to attract and position a mating magnetic panel.

13. A portable platform system comprising:

a frame;

a panel supported by the frame; and

at least one portable support system comprising:

a portable support having a first end and a second end, the first end having a tapered portion, and the second end includes a footing structure; and

a receiving member having a casing including a support cone configured to receive the tapered portion, the support cone having a tapered inner surface and a tapered outer surface, the outer surface and the casing forming a cavity capable of receiving a corresponding tapered footing structure, the inner surface and outer surface being engagable with mating tapered surfaces, at least one of the tapered surfaces being the tapered portion, the receiving member being capable of attachment to one or both of the frame or the panel for use as a platform.

14. The system of claim 13 , further comprising a second portable support system, the second portable support system comprising:

a portable support having a first end and a second end, the first end having a tapered portion, and the second end includes a footing structure;

a latching feature extending through the tapered portion, the latching feature being actuatable to permit selective engagement and disengagement with a receiving member; and

wherein the receiving member is attached to the frame and includes a support cone configured to receive the tapered portion, wherein the portable support further includes a latching feature extending through the tapered portion, the latching feature being actuatable to permit selective engagement and disengagement with a receiving member.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the receiving member further includes a pin for providing rotational positioning.

16. The system of claim 13 , wherein the footing structure is selected from the group consisting of a hook member, a stake member, a post member, a tapered member, and combinations thereof.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the footing structure includes a tapered member that is configured to engage a surface of the support cone.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the portable support further comprises at least one channel configured to mate the pin and rotationally orient the portable support.

19. The system of claim 13 , wherein the geometry of the tapered portion is selected from the group consisting of pyramidal, conical, frusto-conical, and any combinations thereof.

20. The portable support in claim 13 , wherein the tapered portion has a frusto-conical geometry.

21. The portable support in claim 13 , wherein the receiving member includes at least one magnetic panel.

22. The portable support in claim 21 , wherein the at least one magnetic panel includes plurality of magnets arranged and disposed to attract and position a mating magnetic panel.

23. A method of assembling a stage comprising:

providing a frame;

providing a panel to the frame; and

attaching a receiving member to one of the frame or the panel;

providing a portable support having a first end and a second end, the first end having a tapered portion, and the second end includes a footing structure, the receiving member having a casing having a support cone configured to receive the tapered portion, the support cone having a tapered inner surface and a tapered outer surface, the outer surface and the casing forming a cavity capable of receiving a corresponding tapered footing structure, the inner surface and outer surface being engagable with mating tapered surfaces, at least one of the tapered surfaces being the tapered portion, the receiving member being capable of attachment to one or both of the frame or the panel for use as a platform; and

directing the portable support into the receiving member to provide engagement therewith.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the selective engagement and disengagement is provided by hand.
