Abstract

Systems and methods for individualized distribution of digital content to purchasers via portable kiosks are described. The systems contain a storage device for storing the digital content and distribution devices for distributing the digital content to a user. The distribution devices can be configured to be portable so that users who are not mobile can access the distribution device. As well, the users can use a receiving device containing unique identification data to receive and access the digital content. Such a system is extremely useful for users who are not mobile and whose use of the distribution devices needs to be controlled, such as detainees in a corrections facility. Other embodiments are described.

Claims (47)

1. A computerized method performed by a first distribution device for distribution of digital content to a user device, the first distribution device selected from one or a plurality of distribution devices, at least the first distribution device communicatively coupled to a location partner, the computerized method comprising:

receiving user identification data and a request for digital content, the user identification data identifying the user device;

verifying the user identification data;

transmitting the user identification data, and payment information associated with the requested digital content to the location partner;

determining whether the requested digital content contains subject matter that is allowed for the user device with the user identification data;

receiving authorization data from the location partner to transmit the requested digital content to the user device; and

transmitting the requested digital content to the user device.

2. The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein the user identification data is biometric information.

3. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising calculating an access time limitation for the user device based on the user identification data.

4. The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein verifying further comprises verifying the user identification data with stored user identification data; and providing access to digital content upon verification of the received user identification information.

5. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving the requested digital content from a second distribution device.

6. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving payment information from the location partner for the requested digital content.

7. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving instructions from a content provider;

converting instructions from the content provider into digital rights management information; and

associating the digital rights management information with the selected digital content for purchase.

8. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving user specific information; and

transmitting the user specific information and location data to a server.

9. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving user specific data from the user; and

providing the user specific data to a third party.

10. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting to the user device advertising information filtered by comparing the user identification data received from the user device to the authorization data received from the location partner.

11. The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising transmitting payment information associated with the requested digital content to an accounting system associated with the location partner.

12. The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising determining if the requested digital content is stored on the first distribution device; and if the requested digital content is not stored on the first distribution device, receiving the requested digital content from a second distribution device.

13. The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising determining if the requested digital content is stored on the first distribution device; and if the requested digital content is not stored on the first distribution device, transmitting a request to the location partner for authorization to receive the requested digital content from a second distribution device.

14. The computerized method of claim 1 wherein the requested digital content is wirelessly transmitted to the user device.

15. The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising receiving verification data from the user device, and wherein verifying further comprises comparing the verification data from the user device to the user identification data.

16. The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein verifying further comprises receiving biometric data from a user of the user device and comparing the received biometric data to the user identification data.

17. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting to the user device advertising information filtered by comparing user identification data to a plurality of available advertisements.

18. The computerized method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving interaction data, the interaction data indicating digital content requested by the user device, and transmitting the interaction data to the location partner.

19. The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the requested digital content to the user device further comprises transmitting a sample of the requested digital content to a user of the user device.

20. The computerized method of claim 1 , receiving user identification data further comprises receiving payment information associated with a user of the user device.

21. A computerized method performed by a first distribution device for distribution of digital content to a user device, the first distribution device selected from one or a plurality of distribution devices, at least the first distribution device communicatively coupled to a location partner, the computerized method comprising:

receiving user identification data and a request for digital content, the user identification data identifying the user;

verifying the user identification data;

transmitting the user identification data, and payment information associated with the requested digital content to the location partner;

requesting authorization data from the location partner whether the requested digital content contains subject matter that is allowed for the user device with the user identification data;

receiving authorization data from the location partner to transmit the requested digital content to the user device; and

transmitting the requested digital content to the user device.

22. A computerized method performed by a first distribution device for distribution of digital content to a user device, the first distribution device selected from one or a plurality of distribution devices, at least the first distribution device communicatively coupled to a location partner, the computerized method comprising:

receiving user identification data and a request for digital content, the user identification data identifying the user;

verifying the user identification data;

relaying the user identification data, and payment information associated with the requested digital content to the location partner;

waiting for customization data from the location partner who ascertains that the requested digital content contains subject matter that is allowed for the user with the user identification data;

receiving customization data from the location partner to transmit the requested digital content to the user device; and

transmitting the requested digital content to the user device.
