Abstract

Methods and systems of the present invention allow for hosting a remote computer or server in a hosting provider's data center. An exemplary method may comprise the steps of resolving a registrant's domain name to access a remote computer or server via client software on a client. The remote computer or server may be storage area networked with additional computers and may access additional software via cloud computing.

A. registering a Domain Name to a Registrant;

B. mapping the Domain Name to a Computer or Server hosted in a Data Center of a Hosting Provider;

C. installing on the Computer or Server, via a Hosting Control Center and as necessary, the most recent version of one or more patches, upgrades, backups, applications, utilities, software or any combination thereof, wherein the Hosting Provider has access and the ability to log in to the Computer or server to install the one or more patches, upgrades, backups, applications, utilities, software or any combination thereof;

D. providing the Registrant with Authenticated Remote Access, via a Remote Desktop Program on a Client, to the Computer or Server, wherein the access resolves from the Domain Name and provides the Registrant access to an operating system, a full file system, a plurality of other necessary utilities or applications or any combination thereof on the Computer or Server;

E. providing access to software or utilities which may be installed, or purchased and installed, onto the Computer or Server via cloud computing or through an online Community; and

F. storage area networking the Computer with at least one Additional Computer, thereby providing unlimited Additional Storage Space assignable to the Registrant for files, backups, application install packages, offline storage space, software or any combination thereof.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the Authenticated Remote Access occurs when the Domain Name is entered into a Web Browser, the Remote Desktop Program or other Client Software.

3 . The method of claim 2 wherein the Remote Desktop Program is integrated into or used in conjunction with the Web Browser or other Client Software.

4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the Hosting Control Center includes the ability to install new software, applications or utilities and reboot the Computer or Server from a separate control panel.

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein no dedicated hardware exists on the Computer or Server.

6 . The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of installing an Operating System on the Computer or Server and sharing the Operating System across a plurality of Virtual Environments.

7 . The method of claim 6 wherein the Operating System is UNIX or LINUX based.

8 . A method comprising the steps of:

A. registering a Domain Name to a Registrant;

B. mapping the Domain Name to a Portal Website, hosted on a hosting Computer or Server in a Data Center of a Hosting Provider wherein the Portal Website further comprises at least one online Community or other online software or utilities, at least one Website Storage Area or other storage areas, at least one Management Webpage or other control panels accessible to the Registrant after successful authentication, at least one Email Webpage, any of the aforementioned or any combination thereof;

C. installing on the hosting Computer or Server, via a Hosting Control Center and as necessary, the most recent version of one or more patches, upgrades, backups, applications, utilities, software or any combination thereof, wherein the Hosting Provider has access and the ability to log in to the hosting Computer or Server to install the one or more patches, upgrades, backups, applications, utilities or any combination thereof;

D. providing the Registrant with Authenticated Remote Access, via a Web Browser or other Client Software on a Client, to the Portal, wherein the access resolves from the Domain Name;

E. providing access to online software or utilities which may be added, or purchased and added, to the Portal Website via cloud computing or through the online Community; and

F. storage area networking the hosting the Computer or Server with at least one Additional Computer, thereby providing unlimited Additional Storage Space assignable to the Registrant for files, backups, application install packages, offline storage space, software or any combination thereof.

9 . The method of claim 8 wherein the Portal Website is accessed when the Domain Name is entered into the Web Browser or other Client Software.

10 . The method of claim 8 wherein the online software or utilities which may be added to the Portal further comprise server-side web applications.

11 . The method of claim 8 wherein the Additional Storage Space is used for files, documents, backups, application install packages, offline storage space, software or any combination thereof saved in or associated with the online software or utilities which may be added to the Portal.

12 . The method of claim 8 wherein the Community Website further comprises: access to one or more Online Vendors who are members of the online Community and who provide the online software or utilities added to the Portal; a plurality of Help Instructions and means for the Online Vendors to facilitate installations, patches, upgrades or backups of software or utilities and related files; means to submit feedback to the Online Vendors; means to contact the Online Vendor' technical support about the software or utilities; means to pay for the software or utilities or any combination thereof.

13 . A system comprising:

A. means for registering a Domain Name to a Registrant;

B. means for mapping the Domain Name to a Computer or Server hosted in a Data Center of a Hosting Provider;

C. means for installing on the Computer or Server, via a Hosting Control Center and as necessary, the most recent version of one or more patches, upgrades, backups, applications, utilities, software or any combination thereof, wherein the Hosting Provider has access and the ability to log in to the Computer or Server to install the one or more patches, upgrades, backups, applications, utilities software or any combination thereof;

D. means for providing the Registrant with Authenticated Remote Access, via Client Software on a Client, to the Computer or Server, wherein the access resolves from the Domain Name and provides the Registrant access to at least one application on the Computer or Server;

E. means for providing access to software or utilities which may be installed, or purchased and installed, on the Computer or Server via cloud computing or through an online Community; and

F. means for storage area networking the Computer or Server with at least one Additional Computer, thereby providing unlimited Additional Storage Space assignable to the Registrant for files, backups, application install packages, offline storage space, software or any combination thereof.

14 . The system of claim 13 further comprising at least one Data Center, at least one Storage Area Network, at least one Computer or Server coupled to a Network, an Operating System further comprising at least one File System and a plurality of Virtual Environments, a Portal or Portal Website contained on the Computer or Server, a Management Webpage, at least one Hosting Control Center capable of restarting the Computer or Server, a Domain Name mapped to at least one Computer or Server communicatively coupled to a Network, at least one Client communicatively coupled to a network, a Browser, a Remote Desktop Program, a Storage Area Network, an online Community of Online Vendors further comprising a plurality of software or utilities capable of being installed on the Computer or Server or any combination thereof.
