Compositions and minimally invasive methods for treating peripheral vascular disease
View Patent ↗Methods are described for using compositions containing platelet-rich plasma for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. A platelet-rich plasma composition is introduced into the muscle or soft tissue in the area of hypovascularity to treat the peripheral vascular disease.
1. A method for treating peripheral vascular occlusive disease in an individual comprising:
withdrawing whole blood from the individual;
preparing platelet rich plasma from the whole blood;
buffering the platelet rich plasma to a pH of about 7.3 to 7.5; and
delivering the platelet rich plasma to an area of hypovascularity in the individual thereby treating the peripheral vascular occlusive disease,
wherein an exogenous activator is not added to the platelet rich plasma nor is an exogenous activator administered to the area of hypovascularity.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the platelet rich plasma is delivered to a lower extremity in the individual.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the platelet rich plasma is delivered into and around the area of hypovascularity.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the platelet-rich plasma is introduced into the muscle or soft tissue.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein delivering the platelet rich plasma comprises delivering the platelet rich plasma using a syringe.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein delivering the platelet rich plasma comprises delivering three to five cubic centimeters of the platelet rich plasma.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein buffering the platelet rich plasma comprises buffering with a buffer selected from the group consisting of sodium bicarbonate, calcium gluconate, choline chloride, EGTA, HEPES, maleic acid, MOPS, PIPES, TES, TRIS BASE, TRIS-HC1, and urea.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein delivering the platelet rich plasma comprises injecting the platelet rich plasma.
