Web Based E-Mail System with Address Book Functionality
An embodiment, by way of non-limiting example, comprises a computer program embodied on computer-readable media for providing web-based e-mail comprising software segments for uploading an address book from a client machine to a web server. Another embodiment, by way of non-limiting example, comprises a method for updating recipients with a new e-mail address including sending an update e-mail to a plurality of recipients listed in an address book.

14 . A method, comprising:
at a digital electronic device of a user that includes an email address list of the user, the email address list of the user including a plurality of email addresses:
accessing a web-based email application hosted by a server computer system over the Internet;
displaying a web page for the user in the web-based email application, the web page for the user including an email address list upload link, wherein the email address list upload link is configured to allow the plurality of email addresses in the email address list of the user to be uploaded from the digital electronic device of the user to a web-based address list of the user at the server computer system;
detecting selection of the email address list upload link on the web page; and
after detecting selection of the email address list upload link on the web page, uploading the plurality of email addresses in the email address list of the user from the digital electronic device of the user to the web-based address list of the user at the server computer system.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the email address list of the user at the digital electronic device comprises a text file.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the web page for the user includes an email address entering link, distinct from the email address list upload link, wherein the email address entering link is configured to allow an email address to be input at the digital electronic device of the user and added to the web-based address list of the user at the server computer system.
17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the web page for the user includes an email distribution list upload link, distinct from the email address list upload link, wherein the email distribution list upload link is configured to allow a plurality of email addresses in an email distribution list of the user to be uploaded from the digital electronic device of the user to a web-based distribution list of the user at the server computer system.
18 . A digital electronic device of a user, comprising:
a display;
one or more processors; and
memory;
one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
accessing a web-based email application hosted by a server computer system over the Internet;
displaying a web page for a user of the digital electronic device in the web-based email application, the web page for the user including an email address list upload link, wherein the email address list upload link is configured to allow a plurality of email addresses in an email address list of the user at the digital electronic device to be uploaded from the digital electronic device of the user to a web-based address list of the user at the server computer system;
detecting selection of the email address list upload link on the web page; and
after detecting selection of the email address list upload link on the web page, uploading the plurality of email addresses in the email address list of the user from the digital electronic device of the user to the web-based address list of the user at the server computer system.
19 . The digital electronic device of claim 18 , wherein the email address list of the user at the digital electronic device comprises a text file.
20 . The digital electronic device of claim 18 , wherein the web page for the user includes an email address entering link, distinct from the email address list upload link, wherein the email address entering link is configured to allow an email address to be input at the digital electronic device of the user and added to the web-based address list of the user at the server computer system.
21 . The digital electronic device of claim 18 , wherein the web page for the user includes an email distribution list upload link, distinct from the email address list upload link, wherein the email distribution list upload link is configured to allow a plurality of email addresses in an email distribution list of the user to be uploaded from the digital electronic device of the user to a web-based distribution list of the user at the server computer system.
22 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by a digital electronic device with a display, cause the device to:
access a web-based email application hosted by a server computer system over the Internet;
display a web page for a user of the digital electronic device in the web-based email application, the web page for the user including an email address list upload link, wherein the email address list upload link is configured to allow a plurality of email addresses in an email address list of the user at the digital electronic device to be uploaded from the digital electronic device of the user to a web-based address list of the user at the server computer system;
detect selection of the email address list upload link on the web page; and
after detecting selection of the email address list upload link on the web page, upload the plurality of email addresses in the email address list of the user from the digital electronic device of the user to the web-based address list of the user at the server computer system.
23 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 22 , wherein the email address list of the user at the digital electronic device comprises a text file.

The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 22 , wherein the web page for the user includes an email address entering link, distinct from the email address list upload link, wherein the email address entering link is configured to allow an email address to be input at the digital electronic device of the user and added to the web-based address list of the user at the server computer system.

The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 22 , wherein the web page for the user includes an email distribution list upload link, distinct from the email address list upload link, wherein the email distribution list upload link is configured to allow a plurality of email addresses in an email distribution list of the user to be uploaded from the digital electronic device of the user to a web-based distribution list of the user at the server computer system.
