Abstract

Techniques to manage presence information based on routing rules are described. An apparatus may comprise a presence management component operative to manage presence information for a presentity. The presence management component comprises a presence interface module operative to receive a routing rule for a communication event for a presentity node used by a presentity. The presence management component also comprises a presence control module communicatively coupled to the presence interface module, the presence control module operative to determine presence state information based on the routing rule. The presence management component further comprises a presence publish module communicatively coupled to the presence control module, the presence publish module operative to publish the presence state information to multiple watcher nodes. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims (30)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a routing rule for communication events for a presentity node used by a presentity, the presentity node comprising an electronic device operative to publish presence information that is not accurate, the routing rule comprising a condition, that when met, causes a communication event sent to the presentity node to be routed to a different device;

determining presence state information based on a mapping of a route to a presence state and the presence information published by the presentity node, the route determined by the routing rule when the routing rule routes the communication event to the different device, wherein the routing rule is not based on the presence information; and

publishing the presence state information to multiple watcher nodes.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising receiving the routing rule to route the communication events to a presentity contact number for the presentity node.

3. The method of claim 2 , comprising determining presence available state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to another presentity contact number for another presentity node used by the presentity.

4. The method of claim 2 , comprising determining presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to another contact number for another entity.

5. The method of claim 2 , comprising determining presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to a message service.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising receiving the routing rule to route the communication event to a presentity contact number for the presentity based on a routing condition.

7. The method of claim 6 , comprising determining presence available state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity node when the routing condition is matched.

8. The method of claim 6 , comprising determining presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity node when the routing condition is unmatched.

9. An article comprising a computer-readable storage medium, wherein the medium is not a signal, containing instructions that if executed enable a system to:

receive a routing rule for communication events for a presentity, the routing rule comprising a condition, that when met, causes a communication event sent to the presentity node to be routed to a different device;

infer presence state information from a mapping of a route to a presence state and incorrect presence available state information, the route determined by the routing rule when the routing rule routes the communication event to the different device, wherein the routing rule is not based on the presence information; and

publish the presence state information to multiple watcher nodes.

10. The article of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to infer presence available state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to another contact number for the presentity.

11. The article of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to infer presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to another contact number for another entity.

12. The article of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to infer presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to a message service.

13. The article of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to infer presence available state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity when a routing condition is matched.

14. The article of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that if executed enable the system to infer presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity when a routing condition is unmatched.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

a presence management component stored in memory and operative to run on a processor to manage presence information for a presentity, the presence management component comprising:

a presence interface module operative to receive a routing rule for a communication event for a presentity node used by a presentity, the presentity node operative to provide presence state information, the routing rule comprising a condition, that when met, causes a communication event sent to the presentity node to be routed to a different device;

a presence control module communicatively coupled to the presence interface module, the presence control module operative to correct the presence state information based on a mapping of a route to a presence state, the route determined by the routing rule when the routing rule routes the communication event to the different device, wherein the routing rule is not based on the presence information; and

a presence publish module communicatively coupled to the presence control module, the presence publish module operative to publish the presence state information to multiple watcher nodes.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , the presence control module operative to determine presence available state information when the routing rule routes communication events for a presentity contact number for the presentity node to another presentity contact number for another presentity node used by the presentity, and presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity contact number to another contact number for another entity.

17. The apparatus of claim 15 , the presence control module operative to determine presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for a presentity contact number for the presentity node to a message service.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 , the presence control module operative to determine presence available state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity node when a routing condition is matched, and presence unavailable state information when the routing rule routes communication events for the presentity node when the routing condition is unmatched.

19. The apparatus of claim 15 , the presence control module operative to determine presence state information based on the routing rule having a routing condition.

20. The apparatus of claim 18 , the routing condition comprising a presence temporal condition or a calling entity condition.
