a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate and comprising a first sub pixel electrode and a second sub pixel electrode;

a common electrode disposed on the second substrate;

an alignment layer disposed on at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode and comprising a plurality of chains made from a light reactive material;

a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and comprising liquid crystal molecules aligned in a plurality of directions; and

a plurality of conductive lines disposed on the first substrate,

wherein the first sub pixel electrode has a first edge portion and a second edge portion opposite the first edge portion, the first edge portion and the second edge portion both comprise a first part and a second part, and a width of the first part overlapping one of the plurality of conductive lines is wider than a width of the second part overlapping one of the plurality of conductive lines, and

wherein the first part and the second part are connected to each other, but are not collinear, and the width of the first part extends in the same direction as the width of the second part.

2. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein a liquid crystal capacitance formed between the first sub pixel electrode and the common electrode is different from a liquid crystal capacitance formed between the second sub pixel electrode and the common electrode.

3. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules, which are between the first sub pixel and the common electrode, are inclined toward the first part and away from the second part.

4. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein the first part of the first edge portion is disposed opposite the second part of the second edge portion, and the second part of the first edge portion is disposed opposite the first part of the second edge portion.

5. The liquid crystal display of claim 4 , wherein the second sub pixel electrode has a first edge portion and a second edge portion opposite the first edge portion of the second sub pixel, the first edge portion and the second edge portion of the second sub pixel both comprise a first part and a second part, and a width of the first part overlapping one of the plurality of conductive lines is wider than a width of the second part overlapping one of the plurality of conductive lines.

6. The liquid crystal display of claim 5 , wherein alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules, which are between the second sub pixel and the common electrode, are inclined toward the first part and away from the second part of second sub pixel.

7. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first thin film transistor connected to the first sub pixel electrode; and

a second thin film transistor connected to the second sub pixel electrode.

8. The liquid crystal display of claim 7 , further comprising an insulating layer comprising a contact hole, wherein the first thin film transistor comprises a drain electrode, and the first sub pixel electrode is connected to the drain electrode through the contact hole.

9. The liquid crystal display of claim 8 , wherein the contact hole is disposed on a border of two regions where the alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules are different.

10. The liquid crystal display of claim 9 , further comprising a gate line connected to the first thin film transistor and the second thin film transistor, wherein the drain electrode extends from the gate line to the contact hole and has a first portion perpendicular to the gate line and a second portion parallel with the gate line.

11. The liquid crystal display of claim 10 , wherein the drain electrode has two bends.

12. The liquid crystal display of claim 7 , wherein the first sub pixel electrode is configured to receive a first voltage, and the second sub pixel electrode is configured to receive a second voltage, which is different from the first voltage.

13. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein the alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules make an angle with respect to edges of the conductive lines ranging from between 0° and 90°.

14. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein the first sub pixel electrode and the second sub pixel electrode each comprise four domains.

15. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein an area of the first sub pixel electrode is different from an area of the second sub pixel electrode.

16. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein the conductive lines are storage electrode lines.
