Abstract

The present disclosure relates to dressings, such as patches and bandages, and other devices and systems that deliver nitric oxide.

Claims (83)

1. A dressing comprising:

one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors;

one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors; and

at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

2. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more power supplies.

3. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more optical waveguides.

4. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more quantum dots.

5. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more rare-earth materials.

6. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

one or more light emitting diodes configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

7. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

one or more light sources configured to emit visible light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

8. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

one or more light sources configured to emit infrared light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

9. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more receivers.

10. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more transmitters.

11. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

at least one control unit configured to regulate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

12. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

at least one control unit configured to regulate in response to one or more programs at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

13. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

at least one control unit configured to regulate in response to one or more commands at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

14. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more sensors.

15. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors configured to detect temperature.

16. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors configured to detect hydrostatic pressure.

17. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors configured to detect one or more microbes.

18. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors configured to detect nitric oxide.

19. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors configured to detect the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

20. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors operably coupled to the at least one control unit.

21. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more sensors configured to transmit one or more signals.

22. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more electrochemical sensors.

23. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more semiconductor sensors.

24. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more chemical sensors.

25. The dressing of claim 14 , wherein the one or more sensors comprises:

one or more pulse rate sensors.

26. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more user interfaces.

27. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

one or more light sources configured to emit ultraviolet light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

28. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the dressing is at least one of the following: patch, bandage, tape, drape, sock, glove, condom, wrap, and/or hood.

29. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

at least one control unit configured to regulate at least one of intensity, pulse rate, wavelength, and/or timing of light emitted from at least some of the one or more light sources.

30. The dressing of claim 1 , wherein the at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors comprises:

at least one control unit configured to regulate in response to one or more timers at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from at least some of the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

31. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one backing sheet.

32. The dressing of claim 31 , wherein the at least one backing sheet comprises:

at least one backing sheet that includes one or more adhesive portions.

33. The dressing of claim 31 , wherein the at least one backing sheet comprises:

at least one flexible backing sheet.

34. The dressing of claim 31 , wherein the at least one backing sheet comprises:

at least one inflexible backing sheet.

35. The dressing of claim 31 , wherein the at least one backing sheet comprises:

at least one of the following types of backing sheets: film, foam, fabric, perforated, fluid impermeable, gas impermeable, vapor impermeable, light impermeable, metallic, non-metallic, hydrophobic, hydrophilic, woven, non-woven, opaque, translucent, transparent, and/or polymeric.

36. The dressing of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one nitric oxide permeable layer.

37. The dressing of claim 36 , wherein the at least one nitric oxide permeable layer comprises:

at least one nitric oxide permeable layer that includes one or more adhesive portions.

38. The dressing of claim 36 , wherein the at least one nitric oxide permeable layer comprises:

at least one nitric oxide selective membrane.

39. A dressing comprising:

one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors; and

at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

40. A system comprising:

one or more light sources configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors onto one or more skin surfaces; and

at least one control unit configured to operate at least some of the one or more light sources that are configured to emit light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors onto one or more skin surfaces.
