Abstract

Devices, systems and methods of using an ergonomic fore grip/gun handle with a concealable and collapsible bipod. One version can have a tubular recess consisting of a first cylindrical cutout housing the bipod legs when concealed and a sliding piston that deploys the legs and a second cylindrical cutout housing a release mechanism and a void space for other accessories. The release mechanism has a compression spring positioned between the piston assembly and the bottom of the first cylindrical cutout and the compression spring. The legs are connected to the bottom of the piston assembly via a hinge and spring that when released from confinement within the fore grip, causes the legs to expand outward until fully deployed. Telescoping legs allow adjustment of leg length for use on uneven terrain. The grip portion has an outer surface with a flat surface on sides of the grip to provide a more stable grip, assist in orienting the mounted weapon and support pressure pads for lights.

Claims (54)

1. An ergonomic fore grip for mounting to a firearm to stabilize and support the firearm, comprising:

an elongated generally cylindrical housing having an upper end, and a bottom end, the bottom end having an opening to a longitudinal chamber within the housing;

a mount for attaching the upper end of the generally cylindrical housing to a bottom of a firearm, the mount having a fixed rail and a parallel movable rail, with a longitudinal channel therebetween, and a member for moving the moveable rail relative to the fixed rail, wherein the fixed rail and the moveable rail clamp to portions of picatinny rails underneath of a firearm;

a pair of legs having an upper end and a bottom end, the upper end of the legs being within the housing, each of the legs having a longitudinal axis;

a nonspring deployment member for dropping the bottom end of the pair of legs to move from a retracted position with substantially all of the legs within the cylindrical housing, to a lowered position with substantially all of the legs protruding out from underneath the cylindrical housing; and

an expansion member for expanding the bottom end of the legs into a bipod configuration beneath the housing.

2. The fore grip of claim 1 , wherein the mount includes:

a raised cross member in the longitudinal channel crossing between the fixed rail and the moveable rail, the raised cross member located between ends of the longitudinal channel, the raised cross member for allowing the mount to have an enhanced fitting to the picatinny rails underneath the firearm.

3. The fore grip of claim 2 , wherein the raised cross member includes:

a threaded fastener for attaching the fixed rail to the moveable rail.

4. The fore grip of claim 1 , wherein the threaded fastener includes:

a bolt with a countersunk head.

5. The fore grip of claim 4 , wherein the countersunk head has a hexagonal shape.

6. The fore grip of claim 5 , wherein the mount includes a female seat for receiving the hexagonal shape head of the fastener.

7. The fore grip of claim 3 , wherein the threaded fastener includes:

a bolt with a countersunk head.

8. The fore grip of claim 7 , wherein the countersunk head has a hexagonal shape.

9. The fore grip of claim 8 , wherein the mount includes a female seat for receiving the hexagonal shape head of the fastener.

10. The fore grip of claim 1 , further comprising:

foot members attached to each bottom end of the legs, each of the foot members being oriented at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of each of the legs, the foot members always protruding out from underneath the bottom end of the housing.

11. The fore grip of claim 1 , wherein the expansion member between the upper ends of the legs is a single spring for expanding the bottom ends of the legs apart.

12. The fore grip of claim 1 , further comprising:

a slidable member inside of the housing being attached to an upper ends of the legs;

a pair of parallel extending leg tabs attached to the slidable member, wherein the leg tabs substantially protrude downward beneath the housing when the legs are in the expansion position of a triangular configuration.

13. The fore grip of claim 12 , further comprising:

a stiffening member crossing between the parallel tabs for allowing the tabs to be in a fixed separation from one another.

14. The fore grip of claim 12 , further comprising:

a pivot member for attaching upper ends of each of the legs to one another.

15. The fore grip of claim 13 , wherein each of the upper ends of the legs include: an axle hole for the pivot member.

16. The fore grip of claim 1 , further comprising:

a cap attached to the bottom end of the housing having an opening with a diameter smaller than the diameter in the opening of the chamber of the housing, the cap for holding the slidable member from falling out of the housing.

17. The fore grip of claim 1 , further comprising:

foot members attached to each bottom end of the legs, each of the foot members being oriented at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of each of the legs, the foot members always protruding out from underneath the bottom end of the housing.

18. An ergonomic fore grip for mounting to a firearm to stabilize and support the firearm, comprising:

an elongated generally cylindrical housing having an upper end, and a bottom end, the bottom end having an opening to a longitudinal chamber within the housing;

a mount for attaching the upper end of the generally cylindrical housing to a bottom of a firearm, the mount having a fixed rail and a parallel movable rail, with a longitudinal channel therebetween, and a member for moving the moveable rail relative to the fixed rail, wherein the fixed rail and the moveable rail clamp to portions of picatinny rails underneath of a firearm;

a raised threaded fastener in the longitudinal channel crossing between the fixed rail and the moveable rail, the raised threaded fastener being located between ends of the longitudinal channel, the raised cross member for allowing the mount to have an enhanced fitting to the picatinny rails underneath the firearm;

a pair of legs having an upper end and a bottom end, the upper end of the legs being within the housing, each of the legs having a longitudinal axis;

foot members attached to the bottom end of each legs, each foot members being oriented at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of each of the legs, the foot members always protruding out from underneath the bottom end of the housing;

a slidable member inside of the housing being attached to the upper ends of the legs;

a pair of parallel extending leg tabs attached to the slidable member, wherein the leg tabs substantially protrude downward beneath the housing when the legs are in the expansion position of a triangular configuration;

a stiffening member crossing between the parallel tabs for allowing the tabs to be in a fixed separation from one another;

a nonspring deployment member for dropping the bottom end of the pair of legs to move from a retracted position with substantially all of the legs within the cylindrical housing, to a lowered position with substantially all of the legs protruding out from underneath the cylindrical housing;

a cap attached to the bottom end of the housing having an opening with a diameter smaller than the diameter in the opening of the chamber of the housing, the cap for holding the slidable member from falling out of the housing; and

an expansion member for expanding the bottom end of the legs into a bipod configuration beneath the housing.

19. A method of actuating bipod legs from the fore grip on a weapon, comprising the steps of:

mounting an upper end of a housing having a cylindrical surface portion, about picatinny rails located underneath of a firearm;

storing a pair of elongated legs, having upper ends pivotally attached to one another, in a sandwich configuration inside of the housing;

extending portions of angled foot members that are connected to bottoms of each of the legs beneath the housing;

attaching an upper portion of the main housing to a weapon;

dropping the foot members and substantially all of the legs from beneath the housing without using a spring for pushing down on the upper ends of the stored elongated legs; and

expanding the foot members and the bottom ends of the legs outward relative to the pivotally attached end, to a deployed position, wherein the fore grip has an appearance of an upside down Y configuration in the deployed position.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the expanding step includes the step of:

expanding a spring against upper inner surface portions of the legs.
