Aldosterone induced elastin production
View Patent ↗Compositions and methods for inducing the deposition of elastin in skin by administering compositions including a mineralocorticoid, such as, for example, aldosterone and, optionally, a secondary active agent for enhancing or modulating the effect of the mineralocorticoid are described herein.
1. A method for increasing the net deposition of elastin in skin comprising:
administering an effective amount of a collagen inhibitor and an effective amount of aldosterone to the skin of a subject affected by a condition selected from the group consisting of keloids, aging, stretch marks, overly stretched skin, sun damaged skin, scar tissue, supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS), Williams-Beuren syndrome (WBS), Cutis Laxa, Marfan disease, GM-1-gangliosidosis, Morquio B, Hurler disease, Costello syndrome, Ehlers Danlos syndrome, pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), and combinations thereof, wherein the net deposition of elastin is increased in the skin.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein aldosterone affects the skin in a mineralocorticoid receptor independent manner.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein aldosterone and the collagen inhibitor are administered simultaneously.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the collagen inhibitor is administered prior to aldosterone.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the collagen inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of spironolactone, eplerenone, canrenone and a mineralocorticoid neutralizing antibody.
