Abstract

A condensation particle counter is capable of efficiently measuring the number and size of fine particles. The condensation particle counter includes a saturator, a plurality of condensers and a plurality of optical particle counters. The saturator is designed to generate a saturated gas by saturating a gas in which fine particles are suspended with working fluid. The condensers are connected to a downstream side of the saturator to condense the saturated gas so that liquid droplets can grow around the fine particles. The optical particle counters are connected to downstream sides of the condensers to optically detect the liquid droplets supplied from the condensers. Each of the condensers has a condenser tube for interconnecting the saturator and each of the optical particle counters. The condenser tube is provided with a hydrophilic tube installed inside surface of the condenser tube.

Claims (16)

1. A condensation particle counter, comprising:

a saturator for generating a saturated gas by saturating a gas with working fluid, the gas including suspended fine particles;

a plurality of condensers for condensing the saturated gas to form liquid droplets around the fine particles, the plurality of condensers being connected to a downstream side of the saturator;

a plurality of optical particle counters for optically detecting the liquid droplets supplied from the plurality of condensers, the plurality of optical particle counters being connected to downstream sides of the condensers;

a plurality of condenser tubes included in the plurality of condensers, the plurality of condenser tubes interconnecting the saturator and each of the plurality of optical particle counters;

a hydrophilic layer being in contact with the inner surface of each of the plurality of condenser tubes; and

a plurality of cooling means for reducing temperatures of the plurality of condenser tubes, the plurality of cooling means surrounding the outer surfaces of the plurality of condenser tubes.

2. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 1 , wherein the hydrophilic layer is formed by a porous tube installed inside of each of the plurality of condenser tubes.

3. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 1 , wherein the working fluid comprises water.

4. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 1 , wherein the saturator includes:

a pool for containing the working fluid; and

a saturator tube having a plurality of passageways for guiding the saturated gas from the pool toward each of the plurality of condensers, the plurality of passageways being connected to one side of the pool.

5. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 1 , wherein the hydrophilic layer is a coating layer formed of a titanium oxide layer.

6. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 1 , wherein the hydrophilic layer is a plasma treated layer formed of a titanium oxide layer.

7. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 1 , wherein the hydrophilic layer is made of a material different from a material of each of the plurality of condenser tubes.

8. The condensation particle counter as recited in claim 2 , wherein the hydrophilic layer is made of titanium oxide, hydrophilic polymer, or Zeolite.
