Abstract

The present invention relates to active agent delivery systems and more specifically to compositions that comprise amino acids, as single amino acids or peptides, covalently attached to active agents and methods for administering conjugated active agent compositions.

Claims (22)

1. A composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently attached to a carrier peptide;

wherein said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and

wherein said composition is in a form suitable for release of hydrocodone into the bloodstream of a subject to whom the composition is administered from the alimentary tract of the subject.

2. A composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently bound to a carrier peptide; wherein said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and

wherein said composition is in a form suitable for modulating release of hydrocodone from the carrier peptide.

3. A composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently attached to a carrier peptide; wherein said carrier peptide is a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid.

4. A composition comprising: hydrocodone covalently attached to a carrier peptide; where said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and wherein said carrier peptide is in a form suitable for release of hydrocodone into the bloodstream of a subject to whom the composition is administered.

5. A composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently bound to a carrier peptide; wherein said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and wherein the composition is in a form suitable for pharmacological effect in the small intestine of a subject; and

wherein the hydrodocone is released into the bloodstream of the subject.

6. A composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently bound to a carrier peptide; wherein said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and wherein the composition is in a form wherein hydrocodone is delivered into the systemic circulation of a subject to whom the composition is administered.

7. A composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently bound to a carrier peptide; wherein said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and wherein the composition is in a form which converts a mechanism of hydrocodone adsorption in a subject to whom the composition is administered from passive to active uptake.

8. A method of treating disorders, said method comprising administering to a subject a composition comprising:

hydrocodone covalently bound to a carrier peptide; wherein said carrier peptide comprises a single amino acid selected from the group consisting of glutamic acid and aspartic acid; and

wherein said composition is in a form suitable for delivery of hydrocodone into the bloodstream of the subject.

9. The composition of claim 6 , wherein hydrocodone but not hydrocodone bound to the carrier peptide reaches the systemic circulation.

10. The composition of claim 6 , wherein hydrocodone bound to the carrier peptide reaches the systemic circulation.
