The compounds, compositions, and methods of the invention are also useful for inhibiting the growth of a cancer cell or neoplastic cell, treating or preventing a viral infection, or inhibiting the replication and/or infectivity of a virus.

Claims (10)

1. A method for treating cancer in a patient, the method comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of the compound whose structure is

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,

wherein the cancer is cervical cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, acute myelocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Non-Hodgkin's disease lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease lymphoma, acute lymphocytic leukemia, small cell lung cancer, follicular lymphoma, or non-small cell lung cancer.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising administering a chemotherapeutic agent.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable salt is tartrate salt or mesylate salt.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the chemotherapeutic agent is a nitrogen mustard, nitrosourea, alkylsulphonate, triazene, platinum containing compound, vinca alkaloid, taxoid, epipodophyllin, mytomycin C, DHFR inhibitor, IMP dehydrogenase inhibitor, ribonucleotide reductase inhibitor, uracil analog, cytosine analog, purine analog, anti-estrogen, LHRH agonist, anti-androgen, vitamin D3 analog, photodynamic therapy, cytokine, isoprenylation inhibitor, dopaminergic neurotoxin, kinase inhibitor, actinomycin, bleomycin, anthracycline, MDR inhibitor, or Ca 2+ ATPase inhibitor.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the chemotherapeutic agent is methotrexate, mercaptopurine, thioguanine, hydroxyurea, cytarabine, cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, nitrosoureas, cisplatin, carboplatin, mitomycin, dacarbazine, procarbizine, etoposide, campathecins, bleomycin, doxorubicin, idarubicin, daunorubicin, dactinomycin, plicamycin, mitoxantrone, asparaginase, vinblastine, vincristine, vinorelbine, paclitaxel, cytosine arabinoside, or docetaxel.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering radiation therapy.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is small cell lung cancer, follicular lymphoma, non-small cell lung cancer, non-Hodgkin's disease lymphoma, or acute myelocytic leukemia.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is small cell lung cancer.
