Abstract

Methods and systems of patient treatment are disclosed. The methods and systems include use of medical device informatics to modify and validate therapies and drugs used in those therapies. In certain embodiments, a medical device, such as a medical infusion pump, interfaces with a server to administer the patient treatments. In one aspect, a server is disclosed which includes a memory configured to store identification information regarding a plurality of medical devices at different customer sites, and a programmable circuit operatively connected to the memory. The programmable circuit is configured to execute program instructions to receive data from medical devices at one or more of the different customer sites, store data in the memory associated with the one or more different customer sites, and associate a portion of the data with the medical device that transmitted that portion of data.

Claims (46)

1 . A server comprising:

a memory configured to store identification information regarding a plurality of medical devices at different customer sites;

a programmable circuit operatively connected to the memory, the programmable circuit configured to execute program instructions to:

receive data from medical devices at one or more of the different customer sites;

store data in the memory associated with the one or more different customer sites; and

associate a portion of the data with the medical device that transmitted that portion of data.

2 . The server of claim 1 , wherein the different customer sites are associated with different customers.

3 . The server of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to send program information to one or more of the medical devices.

4 . The server of claim 1 , wherein the server is accessible to one or more workstations at the different customer sites.

5 . The server of claim 4 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to provide to the workstations at least portions of the data associated with that customer site.

6 . The server of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to associate the plurality of medical devices with the corresponding different customer sites.

7 . The server of claim 1 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to receive commands from a workstation at a customer site.

8 . The server of claim 7 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to determine whether the commands received from the workstation relate to medical devices at the customer site.

9 . The server of claim 8 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to, upon determining that the commands relate to medical devices at the customer site, execute the commands received from the workstation.

10 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the commands direct the server to reprogram one or more of the medical devices at the customer site.

11 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the commands request event log data held by the server, the event log data related to one or more of the medical devices at the customer site.

12 . A server network comprising:

a plurality of medical devices at different customer sites;

a server operatively connected to the plurality of medical devices, the server comprising:

a memory configured to store identification information regarding the plurality of medical devices;

a programmable circuit operatively connected to the memory, the programmable circuit configured to execute program instructions to:

receive data from medical devices at one or more of the different customer sites;

store data in the memory associated with the one or more different customer sites;

associate a portion of the data with the medical device that transmitted that portion of data; and

a workstation at one of the customer sites, the workstation communicatively connected to the server and configured to request data related to the customer site.

13 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the different customer sites are associated with different customers.

14 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to send program information to one or more of the medical devices.

15 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to associate the plurality of medical devices with the corresponding different customer sites.

16 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to receive commands from a workstation.

17 . The server network of claim 16 , wherein the workstation resides at one of the customer sites.

18 . The server network of claim 16 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to determine whether the commands received from the workstation relate to medical devices at the customer site.

19 . The server network of claim 18 , wherein the programmable circuit is further programmed to, upon determining that the commands relate to medical devices at the customer site, execute the commands received from the workstation.

20 . The server network of claim 19 , wherein the commands direct the server to reprogram one or more of the medical devices at the customer site.

21 . The server network of claim 19 , wherein the commands request event log data held by the server, the event log data related to one or more of the medical devices at the customer site.

22 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein one or more of the medical devices is a medical infusion pump.

23 . The server network of claim 22 , wherein the commands are selected from a group consisting of:

configuration parameters;

drug library information;

soft limits

hard limits;

care profiles;

firmware updates; and

software patches.

24 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the server is operatively connected to the medical devices over a wired network connection.

25 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the server is operatively connected to the medical devices over an at least partially wireless network connection.

26 . The server network of claim 12 , wherein the server is an application server.
