Abstract

Temporal qualities of electronic documents are verified using a variety of techniques, including human based feedback. The invention can be used in environments such as automated news aggregators, search engines, and other electronic systems which compile information having temporal qualities.

Claims (23)

1. A method of collecting data with a computing system from users relating to temporal characteristics of electronic documents within an electronic interface comprising:

a) identifying a first event with the computing system;

b) automatically identifying a geographic site associated with said first event using the computing system;

c) automatically selecting, with the computing system, a target set of individuals associated with said geographic site to be used in collecting data relating to said event;

d) communicating and soliciting data from each of said target set of individuals with the computing system, including by:

1. identifying said first event within an electronic interface;

2. presenting information on one or more electronic documents containing content directed to said first event within the electronic interface;

3. providing a sorting section within the interface which permits users to express their ranking of temporal characteristics of said one or more electronic documents relating to said first event, including a ranking of how current such documents are concerning said first event.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein step (d) is performed through a television interface, a cell phone interface, a speech recognition interface and/or web based interface.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein step (d) is performed through an RSS feed.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein step (d) is performed in part through recognizing speech utterances provided by such target set of individuals.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said target set of individuals include persons who have opted to participate and share voice channel data with an automatic data collection processing routine.

6. . The method of claim 1 wherein said electronic interface is customized with topics by the computing system matched to interests of said target set of individuals.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein said target set of individuals are selected with the computing system based on studying electronic bookmarks of such persons.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein said target set of individuals are selected with the computing system from identifying search queries made by such persons.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein said steps are implemented as one or more computer software routines stored in a tangible media and adapted to cause one or more computing systems to perform the operations recited therein.

10. A method of collecting data with a computing system relating to an event from users of a social networking site comprising:

a) offering membership to users of said social networking site to a reporting group associated with a first event or topic with the computing system;

b) identifying at least a first event or topic with the computing system within a first portion of an electronic interface used by said users;

c) presenting information on one or more electronic documents containing content directed to said first event or topic within the electronic interface with the computing system;

wherein said information is contributed at least in part by said reporting group;

d) providing a sorting section within the electronic interface which permits members of said reporting group to express their ranking of temporal characteristics of said one or more electronic documents relating to said first event or topic to the computing system, including a ranking of how current such documents are concerning said first event or topic; and

e) automatically performing a first sort of said one or more documents with the computing system according to their temporal characteristics relative to said first event prior to presenting them in the electronic interface for ranking by said users.
