Abstract

A housing including a plurality of openings for receiving fiber optic connectors and protecting the polished end face of the connectors from damage while the connectors are stored within a telecommunications connection cabinet. A module with a plurality of optical fiber cables connected to a first optical fiber cable and terminated by a fiber optic connector. Each of the connectors are inserted within openings in a connector holder for storage and protection until the cables need to be connected to a customer equipment cable.

Claims (25)

1. A fiber optic telecommunications module comprising:

a splitter housing;

a fiber optic splitter arranged within the splitter housing, the fiber optic splitter being configured to split an optical signal into a plurality of optical signals carried away from the splitter housing on a plurality of fiber optic cables, each of the fiber optic cables being terminated at an end opposite the splitter housing by a fiber optic connector;

a connector storage module including receiving structure that is configured to receive and store a plurality of the optical connectors of the fiber optic cables, the connector storage module being separate from the splitter housing, the connector storage module not including connecting structure to optically couple together two fiber optic connectors.

2. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 1 , wherein each of the fiber optic connectors includes a polished end face and a dust cap arranged about the polished end face.

3. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 2 , wherein the connector storage module includes a front defining a plurality of openings within which the fiber optic connectors and dust caps are inserted and releasably held.

4. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 1 , wherein the connector storage module is configured to receive the fiber optic connectors through at least one opening in a front of the connector storage module and is not configured to receive a fiber optic connector through a rear of the connector storage module.

5. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 4 , wherein the front of the connector storage module defines at least eight openings for receiving eight fiber optic connectors of the fiber optic cables.

6. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 4 , wherein each opening of the connector storage module includes at least one latching arm for releasably engaging one of the fiber optic connectors.

7. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 4 , wherein each opening at the front side of the connector storage module is configured to receive an SC-type connector.

8. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 4 , wherein the connector storage module defines a length, wherein the openings defined at the front of the connector storage module are spaced along the length.

9. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 1 , wherein the connector storage module includes a releasable latch on a first end and a cooperating mounting tab on a second end.

10. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 1 , wherein the connector storage module includes spaced apart rails that extend along a length of the connector storage module.

11. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 10 , wherein a keying feature is arranged on at least one of the rails of the connector storage module.

12. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 1 , wherein the splitter housing includes at least a first cable exit member through which at least some of the fiber optic cables extend from the splitter housing.

13. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 1 , wherein the connector storage module defines a first side and an opposite second side, wherein only the first side of the connector storage module is configured to receive the fiber optic connectors.

14. The fiber optic telecommunications module according to claim 13 , wherein the connector storage module defines a plurality of cavities into which the fiber optic connectors can be inserted.

15. A fiber optic telecommunications module comprising:

a splitter housing;

a fiber optic splitter arranged within the splitter housing, the fiber optic splitter being configured to split an optical signal into a plurality of optical signals carried away from the splitter housing on a plurality of fiber optic cables, each of the fiber optic cables being terminated at an end opposite the splitter housing by a fiber optic connector;

a connector storage means for receiving and storing a plurality of the optical connectors of the fiber optic cables, the connector storage means being separate from the splitter housing, and the connector storage means not including connecting means for optically coupling together two fiber optic connectors.

16. A fiber optic telecommunications module comprising:

a splitter housing;

a fiber optic splitter arranged within the splitter housing, the fiber optic splitter being configured to split an optical signal into a plurality of optical signals carried away from the splitter housing on a plurality of fiber optic cables, each of the fiber optic cables being terminated at an end opposite the splitter housing by a fiber optic connector;

a connector storage module defining receptacles configured to receive and store a plurality of the optical connectors of the fiber optic cables, the connector storage module being separate from the splitter housing, and the connector storage module not including connecting structure for optically coupling together two fiber optic connectors.
