Abstract

A device and method for removing particles, such as catalyst, from a chemical reactor tube by inserting a hollow tube body into the bottom end of a vertical tube, sealing between the hollow tube body and the vertical tube, blowing a gas through the hollow tube body into the bottom of the vertical tube, and vacuuming the top of the vertical tube while continuing to introduce gas into the bottom of the vertical tube.

Claims (15)

1. A method for treating vertical tubes in a chemical reactor, comprising the steps of:

inserting a hollow tube body into the bottom end of one vertical tube in the reactor;

sealing between the hollow tube body and the vertical tube;

introducing a gas flow through said hollow tube body into the bottom of said vertical tube; and

vacuuming at the top of the vertical tube while introducing the gas flow into the bottom of the vertical tube;

wherein said vertical tube has an open bottom end and extends downwardly from an upper tube sheet inside said chemical reactor.

2. A method for treating vertical tubes in a chemical reactor, comprising the steps of:

inserting a hollow tube body into the bottom end of one vertical tube in the reactor;

sealing between the hollow tube body and the vertical tube;

introducing a gas flow through said hollow tube body into the bottom of said vertical tube; and

vacuuming at the top of the vertical tube while introducing the gas flow into the bottom of the vertical tube;

including the step of using said introduced gas flow to blow material through the vertical tube and out of the top of the vertical tube, wherein the step of vacuuming at the top includes removing the material that is blown out the top of the vertical tube;

wherein said vertical tube has an open bottom end and extends downwardly from an upper tube sheet inside said chemical reactor.

3. A method for treating vertical tubes in a chemical reactor as recited in claim 1 , wherein said vertical tube is one of a plurality of vertical tubes extending downwardly from the upper tube sheet inside the chemical reactor, each of said vertical tubes having an open bottom end.

4. A method for treating vertical tubes in a chemical reactor as recited in claim 2 , wherein said vertical tube is one of a plurality of vertical tubes extending downwardly from the upper tube sheet inside the chemical reactor, each of said vertical tubes having an open bottom end.
