Printhead assembly with a wicking element
View Patent ↗A printhead maintenance station includes a housing operatively positioned with respect to an ink ejection face to be maintained. The housing defines a pair of slots. A support arm has lugs at each end that are slidably received in respective slots. A support is mounted on the support arm. A pad is mounted on the support and is suitable for wiping ink. A motor is operatively mounted with respect to the housing. A pair of cams is rotatable by the motor and engaged with respective lugs such that the motor can slide the arms with respect to the housing, thereby moving the pad between a first operative position and a second, inoperative position.
1. A printhead maintenance station comprising:
a housing comprising a body and a cap snap-fitted to the body with a plurality of snap-locks, the housing being operatively positioned with respect to an ink ejection face to be maintained, and defining a pair of slots;
a support arm with lugs at each end that are slidably received in respective slots;
a support mounted on the support arm;
a pad mounted on the support and suitable for wiping ink;
a motor operatively mounted with respect to the housing;
a pair of cams rotatable by the motor and engaged with respective lugs such that the motor can slide the support arm with respect to the housing, thereby moving the pad between a first operative position and a second, inoperative position.
2. A printhead maintenance station as claimed in claim 1 in which the slots and housing are configured so that when the pad is in the first position, it protrudes from the housing and in the second position it is withdrawn into the housing.
3. A printhead maintenance station as claimed in claim 2 , in which the housing includes a pair of springs that are positioned to act on the support arm to bias the pad into the first position.
4. A printhead maintenance station as claimed in claim 1 , in which the pad is configured so that between the first and second position, the pad is either progressively contacting or peeling away from the ink ejection face.
5. The printhead maintenance station of claim 1 , wherein the pad is reciprocally moved between the first and second positions upon actuation of the motor.
