Abstract

An optical disk for use in converting light emitted from a light-emitting diode chip to white light. The optical disk includes a tapered surface such that a center area of the disk has a width greater than a width of an outer area of the disk. The optical disk is formed of a silicone having at least one weight percent mix of phosphor. Various embodiments of this generally described optical disk are also presented.

Claims (24)

1. An optical disk for use in converting light emitted from a light-emitting diode chip to white light, comprising:

an upper surface, a lower surface, and a perimeter surface;

wherein the perimeter surface defines a diameter of the optical disk and an end thickness of the disk;

wherein the end thickness is about 1.0 mm;

wherein the diameter of the disk is about 3.0 mm; and

wherein the upper surface has a radius of curvature of about 9.0 mm.

2. The optical disk of claim 1 , wherein the silicone is LSR-70.

3. The optical disk of claim 1 , wherein the disk has a phosphor mix of between 1-10 weight percent.

4. An optical disk for use in converting light emitted from a light-emitting diode chip to white light, comprising:

an upper surface, a lower surface, and a perimeter surface;

wherein the perimeter surface defines a diameter of the optical disk and an end thickness of the disk;

wherein the end thickness is about 0.5 mm;

wherein the diameter of the disk is about 3.0 mm; and

wherein the upper surface has a radius of curvature of about 13 mm.

5. The optical disk of claim 4 , wherein the silicone is LSR-70.

6. The optical disk of claim 4 , wherein the disk has a phosphor mix of between 1-10 weight percent.

7. An optical disk for use in converting light emitted from an LED chip to white light, comprising:

an upper surface, a lower surface, and a perimeter surface;

wherein the perimeter surface defines a diameter of the optical disk and an end thickness of the disk;

wherein the end thickness is about 2.0 mm;

wherein the diameter of the disk is about 3.0 mm; and

wherein the upper surface has a radius of curvature of about 8.5 mm.

8. The optical disk of claim 7 , wherein the silicone is LSR-70.

9. The optical disk of claim 7 , wherein the disk has a phosphor mix of between 1-10 weight percent.
