Abstract

A display device includes a pixel driver circuit. Each of level converter circuits in the pixel driver circuit has an input terminal supplied with a signal swinging between a first voltage and a second voltage lower than the first voltage; a first first-conductivity-type transistor having a gate electrode coupled to the input terminal, and a source region coupled to a reference voltage; a second second-conductivity-type transistor having a gate electrode coupled to a drain region of the first transistor, a source region-coupled to a power supply, and a drain region coupled to an output terminal; one circuit element among a diode, a resistor and a fourth second-conductivity-type transistor, coupled between the gate electrode of the second transistor and the power supply; a third first-conductivity-type transistor having a source region coupled to the input terminal, a drain region coupled to the output terminal, and a gate electrode supplied with a do voltage.

Claims (62)

1. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels disposed on a transparent insulating substrate and a driver circuit which is disposed on said transparent insulating substrate and which supplies a signal to each of said plurality of pixels,

wherein said driver circuit includes a plurality of level converter circuits, and

each of said plurality of level converter circuits comprises:

an input terminal adapted to be supplied with a signal swinging between a first voltage and a second voltage lower than said first voltage,

an output terminal which outputs a signal swinging between a third voltage higher than said first voltage and said second voltage;

a first transistor of a first conductivity type;

a second transistor of a second conductivity type;

a third transistor of said first conductivity type; and

a diode;

wherein said input terminal is coupled to a gate electrode of said first transistor and a source region of said third transistor,

said output terminal is coupled to a drain region of said second transistor and a drain region of said third transistor,

a drain region of said first transistor is coupled to a gate electrode of said second transistor,

a source region of said first transistor is coupled to a reference voltage,

a source region of said second transistor is coupled to a power supply line which supplies said third voltage,

a gate electrode of said third transistor is supplied with a dc voltage higher than said second voltage and equal to or lower than said first voltage, and

said diode is coupled between said gate electrode of said second transistor and said power supply line, and

wherein said output terminal outputs said third voltage when said input terminal is supplied with said first voltage, and said output terminal outputs said second voltage when said input terminal is supplied with said second voltage.

2. A display device according to claim 1 , wherein a semiconductor layer of said first transistor is comprised of polysilicon.

3. A display device according to claim 1 , wherein said diode is comprised of a transistor of said second conductivity type.

4. A display device according to claim 2 , wherein each of said plurality of pixels is provided with a transistor of said second conductivity type.

5. A display device according to claim 2 , wherein said display device is a liquid crystal display device.

6. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels disposed on a transparent insulating substrate and a driver circuit which is disposed on said transparent insulating substrate and which supplies a signal to each of said plurality of pixels,

wherein said driver circuit includes a plurality of level converter circuits, and

each of said plurality of level converter circuits comprises:

an input terminal adapted to be supplied with a signal swinging between a first voltage and a second voltage lower than said first voltage;

an output terminal which outputs a signal swinging between a third voltage higher than said first voltage and said second voltage;

a first transistor of a first conductivity type;

a second transistor of a second conductivity type;

a third transistor of said first conductivity type; and

a fourth transistor of said second conductivity type;

wherein said input terminal is coupled to a gate electrode of said first transistor and a source region of said third transistor,

said output terminal is coupled to a drain region of said second transistor and a drain region of said third transistor,

a drain region of said first transistor is coupled to a gate electrode of said second transistor,

a source region of said first transistor is coupled to a reference voltage,

a source region of said second transistor is coupled to a power supply line which supplies said third voltage,

a gate electrode of said third transistor is supplied with a dc voltage higher than said second voltage and equal to or lower than said first voltage,

said fourth transistor is coupled between said gate electrode of said second transistor and said power supply line, and

a gate electrode of said fourth transistor is supplied with a fixed voltage; and

wherein said output terminal outputs said third voltage d when said input terminal is supplied with said first voltage, and said output terminal outputs said second voltage when said input terminal is supplied with said second voltage.

7. A display device according to claim 6 , wherein a semiconductor layer of said first transistor is comprised of polysilicon.

8. A display device according to claim 6 , wherein each of said plurality of pixels is provided with a transistor of said second conductivity type.

9. A display device according to claim 7 , wherein said display device is a liquid crystal display device.

10. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels disposed on a transparent insulating substrate and a driver circuit which is disposed on said transparent insulating substrate and which supplies a signal to each of said plurality of pixels,

wherein said driver circuit includes a plurality of level converter circuits, and

each of said plurality of level converter circuits comprises:

an input terminal adapted to be supplied with a signal swinging between a first voltage and a second voltage lower than said first voltage;

an output terminal which outputs a signal swinging between a third voltage higher than said first voltage and said second voltage;

a first transistor of a first conductivity type;

a second transistor of a second conductivity type;

a third transistor of said first conductivity type; and

a resistor element;

wherein said input terminal is coupled to a gate electrode of said first transistor and a source region of said third transistor,

said output terminal is coupled to a drain region of said second transistor and a drain region of said third transistor,

a drain region of said first transistor is coupled to a gate electrode of said second transistor,

a source region of said first transistor is coupled to a reference voltage,

a source region of said second transistor is coupled to a power supply line which supplies said third voltage,

a gate electrode of said third transistor is supplied with a dc voltage higher than said second voltage and equal to or lower than said first voltage, and

said resistor element is coupled between said gate electrode of said second transistor and said power supply line, and

wherein said output terminal outputs said third voltage when said input terminal is supplied with said first voltage, and said output terminal outputs said second voltage when said input terminal is supplied with said second voltage.

11. A display device according to claim 10 , wherein a semiconductor layer of said first transistor is comprised of polysilicon.

12. A display device according to claim 10 , wherein each of said plurality of pixels is provided with a transistor of said second conductivity type.

13. A display device according to claim 11 , wherein said display device is a liquid crystal display device.
