Abstract

The present invention relates to pellets or granules based on iron oxides and/or iron oxyhydroxides and iron(III) hydroxide, a unit suitable for the through-flow of a fluid medium at least partially filled with an adsorbent/catalyst in pellet form consisting essentially of iron oxide and/or iron oxyhydroxide embedded in an iron hydroxide matrix, processes for their production comprising filtering, drying and shaping steps and their processes of their use.

Claims (14)

1. An adsorbent/catalyst granule comprising α-FeOOH having a BET surface area of 50 to 500 m 2 /g and mechanical and hydraulic abrasion resistance of <7%.

2. The adsorbent/catalyst granule according to claim 1 , wherein the adsorbent/catalyst granule has an arsenic (III) adsorption of >56.5%.

3. The adsorbent/catalyst granule according to claim 1 , wherein the adsorbent/catalyst granule has an arsenic (V) adsorption of >25.9%.

4. The adsorbent/catalyst granule according to claim 1 , wherein the adsorbent/catalyst granule has a residual moisture of <50%.

5. The adsorbent/catalyst granule according to claim 1 , wherein the adsorbent/catalyst granule has a size of from 0.2 to 5 mm.

6. A process for removing impurities from a gas, comprising:

providing a gas containing one or more impurities, and

contacting the gas with the adsorbent/catalyst granule according to claim 1 .

7. A process for removing impurities from a liquid, comprising:

providing a liquid containing one or more impurities, and

contacting the liquid with the adsorbent/catalyst granule according to claim 1 .

8. The process according to claim 7 , wherein the liquid is water.

9. The process according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more impurities are chosen from liquid metals, phosphorus, antimony, beryllium, selenium, tellurium, cadmium, chromium and cyano compounds.

10. The process according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more impurities includes arsenic.
