Abstract

In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for negotiating schema information relating to one or more content types of a message body comprised within a message of a communication protocol. A communication protocol message such as a SIP or HTTP message is generated by a sender towards a recipient, wherein the message includes a message body. A schema indicator is provided in the communication protocol message to indicate acceptability of variations of a content type of a message body or body part in a response from the recipient.

Claims (20)

1. A method of communicating schema information relating to one or more content types of a message body comprised within a message, said method comprising:

receiving a first communication protocol message at a recipient from a sender, said first communication protocol message including at least one body part according to multiple variations of a media type, said first communication protocol message further including a first schema indicator in a header field, wherein said first schema indicator is configured to take on multiple values to indicate the multiple variations of the media type of the at least one body part; and

sending a response message back to the sender responsive to said first communication protocol message, wherein said response message includes an indication of media type variations supported by said recipient and a second schema indicator in a header field of said response message, said second schema indicator taking on multiple values to indicate corresponding media type variations supported by said recipient, wherein said first communication protocol message comprises a SIP message relating to one of a Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) service, a Voice Call Continuity (VCC) service, an IMS Emergency Services service, IMS Session Continuity (ISC) service, and an IMS Centralized Services (ICS) service.

2. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said SIP message is one of a SIP request message and a SIP response message.

3. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said sender is a User Equipment (UE) device disposed in a network environment.

4. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said sender is a network node disposed in a network environment.

5. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said recipient is a network node disposed in a network environment.

6. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said recipient is a UE device disposed in a network environment.

7. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one body part comprises an Extensible Markup Language (XML) document.

8. The method of communicating schema information as recited in claim 1 , wherein said media type is a XML media type or XML-based Media Type.

9. An apparatus for communicating schema information relating to one or more content types of a message body comprised within a message, said apparatus comprising:

a component associated with a recipient configured for receiving a first communication protocol message from a sender, said first communication protocol message including at least one body part according to multiple variations of a media type, said first communication protocol message further including a first schema indicator in a header field, wherein said first schema indicator is configured to take on multiple values to indicate the multiple variations of the media type of the at least one body part; and

a component associated with the recipient for sending a response message back to the sender responsive to said first communication protocol message, wherein said response message includes an indication of media type variations supported by said recipient and a second schema indicator in a header field of said response message, said second schema indicator taking on multiple values to indicate corresponding media type variations supported by said recipient, wherein said first communication protocol message comprises a SIP message relating to one of a Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) service, a Voice Call Continuity (VCC) service, an IMS Emergency Services service, IMS Session Continuity (ISC) service, and an IMS Centralized Services (ICS) service.

10. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said SIP message is one of a SIP request message and a SIP response message.

11. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said sender is a User Equipment (UE) device disposed in a network environment.

12. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said sender is a network node disposed in a network environment.

13. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said recipient is a network node disposed in a network environment.

14. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said recipient is a UE device disposed in a network environment.

15. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said at least one body part comprises an Extensible Markup Language (XML) document.

16. The apparatus for communicating schema information as recited in claim 9 , wherein said media type is a XML media type or XML-based Media Type.
