Abstract

A cartridge for a pagewidth inkjet printer has a body configured to fit in a cradle of the inkjet printer. A printhead capper is mounted on the body, the capper and the body defining a print media feed path along which print media is fed. A printhead is housed in the body to print on the print media. An ink distribution support mounts the printhead to the body and distributes ink to the printhead. An ink supply is arranged in the body for supplying the printhead with ink via the ink distribution support.

Claims (13)

1. A cartridge for a pagewidth inkjet printer, the cartridge comprising

a body configured to fit in a cradle of the inkjet printer;

a printhead capper mounted on the body, the capper and the body defining a print media feed path along which print media is fed;

a printhead housed in the body to print on the print media;

an ink distribution support for mounting the printhead to the body and for distributing ink to the printhead; and

an ink supply arranged in the body for supplying the printhead with ink via the ink distribution support.

2. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the body includes a base and a lid to close the base, the ink supply including a number of ink bags positioned in the base.

3. A cartridge as claimed in claim 2 , wherein each ink supply bag is defined by two profiled panels that are sealed together to make an ink holding chamber, the panels being configured to bias said chamber into an expanded position, and a connector assembly operatively arranging said chamber in fluid communication with the ink distribution support.

4. A cartridge as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the profiled panels are defined by a leaf spring which is formed from a folded elongate plate fitted within each bag to exert an outwardly directed pressure on interior walls of the bag.

5. A cartridge as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the ink distribution support defines a plurality of ink paths with inlet members for fluid connection to associated ink bags via the connector assembly.

6. The printhead cartridge of claim 5 , wherein the ink distribution support has two molded portions that form the ink paths.

7. The printhead cartridge of claim 6 , wherein the molded portions of the ink distribution support are of liquid crystal polymer.

8. The printhead cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the printhead has a number of color channels, the ink paths of the ink distribution support being in fluid communication with respective color channels.
